Hi Kathy and welcome to the forum. Our moderator Gail has posted the following statement about it:

http://michaelbolton.com/forum/topics/fake-facebook-page?id=4960343...

As Gail says, Michael's page is to be "liked" and not friended. I hope you find all the info you need there sweetie. If you need help navigating on the forum, to find something etc, let us know: there's always someone around to help. Take care Kathy. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D

Hi Kathie and as Sylvie has said to you and given you link that Gail has made a statement about on here with regard to Michael's page but just to say there are still a lot of false pages cropping up, they are not stopping.  Something new that has started is quite a few girls have had messages sent directly to them through messenger and if this is how they have contacted you all you can do is ignore.

Rest assured Michael only has the one page on FB and he does not have any others whereby he can request friendship of anyone and he never will have.

Take care Kathie !!! :)

Yes please note when you go to Michael's facebook page that it has a blue circle with a white check and you like Michael's page and not friend.  Michael would not send you a private message asking for you to join...he just wouldn't do that. He would not ask for money from his fans in this way.  Be sure you protect yourself and be sure you are on the correct page. Michael also has almost 2 million likes where as these new pages have only a very few.  If you do get a request, please emal me the link from facebook that it takes you to so we can get them taken off of facebook.

Thanks! Gail

Thank you both for your responses.  Sylvia, yes that's what happened:  I was on my iPad on Facebook and had a "friend's request" from Michael Bolton with his picture.  I just wasn't thinking and clicked on "confirm" and the next thing I know, I was getting messages on FB messenger from "him".  I ignored them.  Gail, this morning when checking my email, there was another "friend's request" on our computer.  Needless to say, I didn't do anything but here's the link that was in the sent from box:  notification+kr4maswmywmr@facebookmail.com.  When I put the cursor on that info, there was a phone number that came up as well:  650-543-4800.  Thanks again to both of you.  These types of people just take advantage of us.   I always see Michael's posts on FB.

No problem Kathie and as Gail says, keep yourself safe and if in doubt about any of the stuff just shout and ask !!!

Just for info and for anybody who looks in on this thread here is link into Michael's official FB page and his ONLY FB page

Thanks Sylvia.  I already have "liked" MB's FB page and see posts from him regularly BUT I know it's his FB page!  Thanks again to all of you.

I just clicked Like on what I thought was Michaels page. Then about a day later, I was contacted through FB Messenger stating that my activity on the site (liking) was greatly appreciated with more of a message. Then I received a friend request from "Michael Bolton". I assumed it was his site administrators and there was some back and forth. After couple of messages, whoever was sending the messages said that it was Michael Bolton himself and that he wanted to send me free tickets. Then I got more messages saying more things. Didn't get to the stage of asking for money before I received a message from Facebook saying I was temporarily unable to read the messages as the account needed to be verified. It looks exactly the same.

I pretty much guessed it was some type of scam or someone playing a joke - but of course part of me thought it would be very nice if it was the real Michael Bolton. Oh well, whatever . . .

I Had seen the trailer to his doco on the work he is involved with in Detroit, and it just really up,if tee me to think that there are some really good people in the world, and he is one of them. I just love his voice and music and he is a beautiful person.

Hi Jo and thanks for coming in with your experience and this definitely seems to be the format now with this "messenger" system and it is a bad one for could very easily be taken in.  Think they have realised that just duplicating the pages is not working very well so are using some other tactic.  Believe too as FB have changed the layout of verified accounts it is more difficult to create a belieavable duplicate.  Probably you got message up because others had been approached by same page and someone had reported it and once that happens the pages are suspended until they are looked into and then obviously the false ones are taken down.

You are perfectly right about Michael most definitely being one of the "good" people on this earth and it is such a shame to have his name so abused by these horrible people.  Have to say Michael is not the only celebrity that they target, quite a number have false pages created.

Take care Jo and stay safe on the Internet !!! :)

Hi Sylvia,
I see the fraudsters Facebook page has been deleted. Another concern I have is that these people are part of a network claimed at creatity identity theft. The person who messaged me claiming to be Michael Bolton said that he would have show tickets delivered to my door. Thank Heavens I did not give my address, but I wish I had not accepted the friend request as they now have had access to my photos and some personal information.
Just something further I would like to add. No doubt the reason Michaels identity has been targeted is that a lot of people, especially his fans see what a good person he is, so they have falsely adopted his identity to give them maximal credibility.
Hi, Jo. That's exactly what happened to me. I was on my iPad one evening and got a FB instant message saying that MB's FB team had identified me as one of his frequent FB followers; thanked me for being a great fan; asked if I'd seen any of his shows; and the last message is what made me question the hoax. Said he'd have free tickets delivered to my door for his concerts when he's in our area and, like, you, NO WAYwas I giving out my address. But the line that made me even more concerned was when he asked if I would have dinner with him when he is in town (which for me is next Saturday!). That's when I jumped on the forum. It is just so pathetic that there are hackers out there that try to use MB's good name and reputation to scam those like us that wanted to believe it was real. They played a good game and the wording was easy to believe it was MB.

Thanks all for being there for us and not making us feel stupid because we in good faith hoped it might be the real deal!
That is the exact script that was used for me and when I started googling to find reported scams which led me to this page. Yay Kaathie, wish I was able to see him soon. He is supposed to be coming to Australia in 2017.
