Hi Gail, we had been exploring the different versions of the album on the "U.K. release..." thread and we'd heard from various sites that the German release was supposed to include a second CD called "Michael Bolton's favorites", apparently picked by him. This double CD was to be released in France on April 11 also. Out of curiosity, do you know if it's still included? I'll go check the links on my blog. Thanks for the update sweetie, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie QC Canada :D

P.S.: I've just checked the link from the mp3 album in France and the track listing of the 2 CD's and samples are on it:

Sylvie, I'm thinking you have answered your own question but here is the special edition CD on the german amazon site:

I roughly translated the first two Amazon reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Michael Bolton honors Motown Records April 17, 2014

This review refers to: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - A Tribute To Hitsville USA ( Audio CD)
In the U.S. Michael Bolton is certainly a large number, in the German-speaking world the man is only moderately successful: although he, published records  for us for half an eternity, too, his singles did not even come close to the top 20 for the past 25 years. This is certainly due to his very American way to present songs with often exaggerated fervor and emotion - regardless of whether a title will bear it or not.

In this style, he also has sung his 12 cover versions Motown of classics under the title "A Tribute to Hitsville " (the name refers to the recording studio of Motown Records). Now Bolton's style on some of Motown beads fits really excellent: so his versions of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" or "Ain’t No Mountain" turned out really great. Latter song, there are then also twice, once as a duet with Leona Lewis and once with - not a typo - Helene Fischer. The latter can actually quite keep up with Mrs. Lewis what is perhaps the biggest surprise of this CD.

For other numbers such as "How Sweet It Is" or "Tracks Of My Tears", I would have, however, been wishing a little more understatement. Because even though Bolton has a great voice, he overdoes the “dumplings” (German expression for unprofessional vocalizing) and phrasing sometimes so that he really messes up (no way to translate the German expression) the songs. So magical moments alternate with annoying vocals, but the overall result is worth listening to, mostly because the more powerful recordings prevail in the end.

This CD will not be a huge success outside the States. Also not in Germany, despite of (or even because of?) Helene Fischer. But "A Tribute to Hitsville" went out a pretty decent album for soul and R & B lovers.

Hmm, wasn't able to put both reviews in one reply only (max. of characters ???)

Due to MB's mentoring I was able to look at Helene Fischer differently, but most Germans obviously stick to their prejudices ...

Astrid

Hallo Astrid, first, thanks for the reviews and especially for the translations. :D To answer your question, yes you have. The reggae version of SILYBIL is on the 2005 release "Til the end of forever" that's a mix of studio songs and live songs that weren't put together in order of concerts. It's a great album! I heard Michael sing this live in July 2005 and the CD was coming out in September, I was truly privileged... :D Take care Astrid and have a great day sweetie, thanks again. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie QC Canada

Hi Sylvie, my solver, LOL. Thank you! Certainly I own this great album. How could I forget about this version??? 'm getting old I guess, LOL.

I bet you were surprised to hear that song live, do you remember if MB was able to add the very special phrasing we love so much or did he stick to the Reggae rhythm? (I wouldn't dare to challenge someone else's memories that way... LOL). Thanks again, Astrid

Hi again Astrid, Michael actually started the show with the reggae SILYBIL and hearing the bongos, I thought: "What?", but then I realized it was SILYBIL. A lot of people have asked me how he could "reggae up" that song and I told them: as long as he ends it in that very special way, he can sing it any old way he wants and yes, it was delicious! lol Thanks for asking Astrid, great memories, take care sweetie. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie QC Canada <3

As a big Michael Bolton fan I am happy that he has finally done something again.
I like this album very much as well as the “best of” CD even though I have all of them on cd's, but become a good compilation of his hits.

Did I miss a previous Reggae Version of SILYBIL on CD? Solver, or somebody else, to the rescue, please, LOL.
