Thanks for information Gail and great to read about the other charities that will benefit also from the event and love the sound of the veterans charity and all that they do.

Sorry folks just remembered about this thread to do with MBC's events and so decided to bring article, which I had posted in the 2012 Tour thread, over to here as it really should have been here first !!! LOL.

 

"In the early 1990s, singer Michael Bolton received a letter from a child with cancer who had wanted to meet the Grammy Award-winning artist.

While Bolton was trying to set up a meeting shortly after, the child passed away.

Ever since then, Bolton has been committed to raising money for The Michael Bolton Charities, which has given about $15 million to nonprofits nationwide.

Bolton’s annual fundraising dinner is in Reno for the first time at the Eldorado Hotel Casino on Saturday, and tickets are still available. The Michael Bolton-Reno connection comes from Warren and Jâlé Trepp of Reno, who have donated about $15 million to The Bolton Charities and will receive lifetime achievement awards.

“(Bolton) is a champion for the less fortunate,” said Nanci Glogauer, co-chair of the event with Chip Bowlby and Christina Caramella. “And we have a big war in Nevada to win.”

Bolton has teamed up with Dave Mason, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and guitarist for the band Traffic, to raise money for at-risk women and children.

While the event aims to raise money for Bolton’s charities, fellow co-chair Bowlby said he hopes to gross $500,000 locally for the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and the Nevada Military Support Alliance.

“We hope to host this event annually,” said Bowlby, who added that he thinks Reno can be the host for years to come if they can get enough donations. “Reno is a perfect place to host.”

The decision to bring the event to Reno occurred when the Trepps were told about receiving their awards. Together they suggested Reno host the event after it had been held in Connecticut and California.

After Bolton was told that Nevada had 36,000 cases of domestic violence last year and among those cases 17,000 involved children, he committed to Reno.

“That really hit home with Michael,” Bowlby said. “We came together and said, ‘We’re going to bring it here.’”

Event organizers touted the celebrities that will be in attendance, including Bill Champlin, Carol Leifer, Chipper Lowell, Joan Lunden and Lisa Niemi Swayze. Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, who Glogauer said is known for her work helping missing and exploited children, will act as the honorary chair."

Thought I would add this little photo in here and it is one Kathy has taken of the outside of the Eldorado Hotel and Casino where the MBC Charity Event is taking place tonight and think by timing of when she sent and time difference for me she probably took it when her Bob just arrived and I wonder if the guy in the denims is Michael waiting outside to greet them  !!!!!! ROFL  It was good to see the picture this morning and to know they had arrived safely for they went through quite a bit of snow yesterday and a considerable drop in temperature to what those two southern Californians are used to.....I do hope they acclimatize quickly or they will be shivering even although they have taken warm clothing and snow chains for the car and as Kathy said what a Bolton Adventure it was turning into and they were only travelling there.....wonder what will happen today ??? LOL

 

 

Here is a picture Kathy sent yesterday as her and Bob were driving along and this is just outside Carson City about 30 minutes from Reno.....think I have got information right on that.......and isn't it just a little Christmas picture postcard scene  ??? :)

Thought you might all like to see this little "part" of the MBC event yesterday.   Cameron posted it and it looks as though we have an addition to the band in the form of Walter Earl and that makes me wonder if MB is getting ready for next set of concerts and needed an extra pair of hands for Motown.....trying to work out what the musical instrument will be !!!! LOL.  Were accordions or xylophones or cellos or tubas or................................ever used in Motown music ???? ROFL.

Another picture from last night's event just tweeted by Michael Lington at just after 1 a.m. Reno, Nevada time and it is of Michael L with Bill Champlin from the group Chicago and Michael also says he had a fantastic time at the event.

 

 

For Sylvie and Robin CA the photo has obviously been taken in the ballroom where the event was held and behind ML and Bill you can see the tables laid out for the event and they have on them white tableclothes and the chairs are covered in a blue fabric with a red ribbon tied round the backs of the chairs and tied in bows at front.....it looks so lovely and lovely too that they incorporated MBC's colours which of course come from the Stars and Stripes !! lol

Nice pic. He was also with MB's show in CT in June for the concert there..Was a great show. Looking forward to some reports about the show last night!!!!
