New Year Resolutions for 2012....with a completely NEW slant !!!

Following a request and suggestion from a very dear friend of all of ours on this forum, Sylvie from Canada, I’ve agreed to set up this thread on behalf of both of us and hope that you’ll join in the fun .

Sylvie's idea came from the age old New Year resolution pledges that we’ve all made and have often all broken, throughout the years, and hoped that by trying a "new sauce" on that "old turkey"  it could feel easier for us all and give us a chance to be able to "pat ourselves on the back" and proudly say we achieved our goal of following to the end our... "New Month"... resolution instead........ what do you think?

We both agreed that the month of January would be a "freeby" so we can share suggestions if any of our usual active forum members are interested in this project which, we both hope, will turn into something worthwhile and a lot of fun too.  So guys, if you’d like to take part, please feel free to share your ideas of what you think would be useful and fun resolutions for all of us to follow each month.

Obviously this January is, apart from a "freeby" month, a trial month too so that Sylvie and I can see your interest in this and figure out what the majority think so that we can start February with a very firm idea of what our 1st Resolution will be.  Each one, thereafter, will be clearly displayed before the month begins and will be advertised with an MB calendar as is shown below for our "freeby" month of January.  We hope that each month we can all share stories, tips and cheer each other on.

If you’re interested please join in and give us your thoughts and let’s make this great forum even more of a fun place to visit where we can all come together as friends, thanks to our love and admiration for our Michael.

Very good Sylvia!!! Oh yes...you do have to clean out your computer "closet" every so often OR buy a bigger hard drive to store everything!!!  That isn't always possible on laptops though :/ I agree with not all security systems being equal. Some are better than others :) So happy John has found some things to fix and it helps your computer feel better.....not to mention the user!!! lol

Hey Sylvia, thanks for the description Sylvia so I've "seen" your picture: all that's missing are colors... :D When the old bells ring, I'll be drinking to all our health and for everyone to have the good sense to have a back-up hard drive! :D I've been through this a few times sweetie and I'm sure your files can be accessed. Just remember: gotta keep dreaming and believing! I sense a new catch-phrase coming on! XD Best wishes to all and party like it's 2999! Take care Sylvia and say hi to John for all of us. Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada xxx

Only reason I have a back-up hard drive Sylvie is because John gave it to me last Christmas so I think he believed there was a slim ....oops, sorry, meant to say.....100% chance that I would crash the whole system and lose everything at some point  !!! LOL

My little picture had a background colour of deep red and the photo of the words had background colour of aubergine with words written in gold and the little bells were gold with the trees being green with little coloured baubles all over......it really is lovely Sylvie and I just wish I could see it again and I will keep dreaming and believing (LOL) that that will happen and maybe I will save it to use next year.....and why not for you know about us stingy Scots for when we open our wallets, moths fly out so all the time and effort it took to make that wee picture is priceless and don't want to just chuck that all away !!!! LOL.

Have a super time tonight Sylvie !!!! :)

Hey Sylvia, good to know the solution was less expensive than a new laptop! Thanks for the update sweetie, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Well I got off to a good start today.....no start !!!! LOL    Ended up far too busy with finishing off putting away Christmas decorations and having to do a large shop to restock the cupboards and other things too to even think about going to gym but I am still determined it will happen this week and if not tomorrow definitely on Wednesday !! :)    I did start the diet yesterday.....weighed in and then collapsed; OMG I new I had put on weight but I am sure an elephant must have been standing on those scales at some time and has thrown the weights out of sync.....yeah, pull the other one right enough I would be better just admitting I am no longer the wee one, or maybe I still am in stature but I am definitely the "fat wee one" now.....the diet has started off strict after the casual step and then the leap of shock off of the scales took place and I was going to start gradually but that, for sure, is out the window for it is cut down on everything immediately and see how we get on.....desperate measures needed urgently and I will need to see if my gear for the gym still fits me or, before I get there, I will need to do a little shopping !!!! LOL.

Hope you have been more successul than me Sylvie in getting off to that "good" start which I have missed by a mile !!! LOL

Hey Sylvia, you see, that's why I don't own a scale! lol Well actually, I've only been able to go on the bike once since the beginning of the year, but I have managed to walk every day for at the very least 40 to 60 minutes+ so yay me! I haven't today, but I did do a lot of preps for my daughter's visit like dusting, vacuuming and the laundry on top of that so hopefully that counts as exercize! lol I might do more biking than walking while she's here, but at least, activity-wise, I'm ahead this week. Putting Xmas away is quite a chore, isn't it? I did that on Saturday, cleaned up after Xmas yesterday and just hope to work on my squares. Good luck on getting to the gym Sylvia, hopefully, the scale will have scared you into it! :D See you next Monday sweetie, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Well that makes 3 of us still putting away Christmas decos!! I am still just putting away interior decorations and haven't started on my Christmas trees yet. I go room by room. I have dismantled 4 rooms so far, Have 4 more to go....lol One room at a time! I do NOT own a scale myself for why torture one's self...to certain death!!! lol I have got to get back to walking myself since it is perfect weather right now....cold and brisk dry days :) Wonder if I can still make it up the hill????? LOL I know for sure I can roll down it!!!!!!!! Oy vey....one step at a time I guess :/

You look just wonderful in your Christmas photo Wee One and plenty "wee" to me :))) Enjoy your visit with your daughter Sylvie :))))

See ya ladies!

Kathy and LAFD Bob

After seeing those pictures of your house Kathy I am not surprised you are still at it but it is your own fault for putting them all up !!!!! ROFL.   What I really want to ask is have you bought the neighbours house to store them all in ???????? LOL    That for me is a nightmare because I do not have a lot of storage space in this little house and when I bought new furniture I was silly because I didn't think about storage and have gone more for pieces that are used as displays than containing drawers or cupboards to hide all my junk !! LOL.   All joking aside your house Kathy was absolutely spectacular and I know too we only saw part of it and you sure put my "wee Santa's Grotto" to shame for I thought I was doing pretty well with all my stuff but I don't believe it would have fitted into half of ONE of your rooms !!! lol.

Thanks for the compliment Kathy about my photo but remember that scarf is kind of long and the t-shirt is a little baggy......get what I am saying  ???? LOL    I suppose in some ways I am lucky in that whenever I have put on weight it doesn't concentrate itself on one place it spreads itself out and goes on evenly all over......that is how I can say quite honestly that I don't have a jealous bone in my body for even that shares everything equally !!!!! LOL.    Yeah....but wait a minute.....I'm turning green again hearing about all you have managed to do Sylvie with that walking every day and you Kathy having the perfect weather for it for I haven't done any walking for the weather here is atrocious.....the only thing it has got going for it is that it is mild but it is too mild for we are up at 10/12 C and so much so I have a pot of the large daffodils and they are up so far that you can see the start of the division for the leaves and when weather changes I am going to have bring it in or they will be gone.   We also have a lot of viral diseases spreading too much right now so whilst our mild temperatures may seem a luxury they are proving to be a luxury for what we don't need and to think last year Kathy you were laughing at me going out for walks in temperatures of below -5 now you can't go out for all the flooding and when the constant drizzle we have right now gets heavier it is like monsoon time and you are soaked to the skin in a few minutes.....och well as they say; hey ho just got to get on with it.....or......emigrate !!!!! lol.

Hey Sylvie, just thought, you can get talking scales now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL.   Just goes to prove I might not be the jealous type but I want to spoil everyones happiness when mine gets spoiled !!!!!!! LOL.

Hey Sylvia, Oh I know there are talking scales: Robin has one. I'm with Kathy on that one though: why torture oneself? :D BTW, my secret is that I walk inside while watching "I love Lucy"! lol Noone is available for walks and I don't even venture on my own on a dry driveway any more, because that's how I sprained my ankle last year. Sometimes I walk for half a movie, I always pace while on the phone and do things like set the laundry basket in the living-room and go up and down the stairs (6 up or 8 steps down) to put it away pile by pile. I think every little bit helps and I need help! lol As I've mentionned before, my problem in that department is consistency, but good habits like the laundry and the phone thing keep me moving. Hope you come back with good news next week Sylvia, break a leg! Take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Hey Kathy, thanks for checking in. Girl, your place must look like the North Pole during the hollidays! OMG, I can't even imagine what it's like to put away your Xmas... So do you have a "Xmas storage" space? Well, one thing I have to say for you Kathy is that you really must love entertaining and good for you! Keep us posted on your progress, if you succeed in at least putting Xmas away! :D Take care sweetie and good luck getting "back with the program". Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Hi you 2 Syls.....lol on my decorations. Actually all my decorations are stored INSIDE each room except for the large items. I have several antique pieces in each room and they are filled to the rim with Christmas decorations. All my tree ornaments are stored in each room that they are set up in. And for good measure I designed a window seat/bench in our kitchen nook area where we have a table and the tops of the bench come off and voila!.....lots of storage space!! There are four arched windows with bench seats beneath each one that stores all my window valance/garlands etc!! I have taken down my snowmen trees and now I have 3 more to go. I do it when Bob is gone because I do it orderly. He goes bananas and starts throwing everything everywhere. No can do because then next year I will have a mess to start out with! We do manage to dismantle the entire front yard decorations in one day doing that together. Well.....by the end of January I will be done...LOL

I should have gone walking today for it was gorgeous today...about 70* :) Too busy inside though. Soon enough I will return to walking....without a silent or talking scale!!!! We will all get in to the groove soon enough :)

See ya both...

Kathy and LAFD Bob

Okay Kathy go ahead and put me to shame just because you are SO organized  !!!! LOL.    Thanks for the laugh about Bob but do you not think that could have been a deliberate move, the throwing about of, on his part to get out of having to do ???????? LOL.   That sounds like a good "man trick" to me because for somebody who has to be so organized and meticulous in his profession to just start throwing things about.........hmmmmmmmm !!!!!!!! LOL.     Oh Kathy I am disappointed to hear about what I think you are saying that there isn't equality in your home because you don't actually go up onto the roof and get those decorations down and all those little ones you have got in all the eaves....you leave that to Bob.....oh Kathy, oh Kathy how could you ??????? ROFL

Good luck with the walking but did you really have to mention; "about 70" !!......jealous.....me.....no.....not a jealous bone in my body....oops......wee fibber !!! lol.

See you end of January then Kathy when all decorations packed away....not next Monday ???? lol.
