Hope nobody minds me starting this thread and too all those who come in to take a look I do hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of the Scottish Olympians and Paralympians Parade which took place in Glasgow yesterday because I certainly found it magical and was more than delighted that I decided to go to Glasgow and take part in a once in a lifetime event !! :)   I went to the start of the Parade where the athletes emerged from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and posed for press and television pictures and gave television interviews before boarding the two specially designed buses that took them through part of the city and into the heart which is dominated by a huge square called George Square and it is where Glasgow's City Chambers reside (an official parliamentary building) where a dinner was laid on for them and in attendance was our First Minister, Alex Salmond, and other such dignataries.   I decided to go to the start as easier for me travelling from Largs and also well known to me as old stomping ground and I must say I had a delightful day walking through Kelvingrove Park and taking pictures in there and too walking paths I haven't walked in quite a while and it was more than lovely to retrace exceptionally fond memories which I was more than delighted to be able to do with a smile and that alone made me very happy.   A lot of the area is taken up by Glasgow University campus and a lot of my pictures are of parts of the University and I must say that when I passed by the student union and saw them all sitting outside having lovely cool beers I was sorely tempted to ask one to sign me in and to really relive the past and then, thank goodness, a wee, wee voice said:  "Come on granny, get yourself home and stop dreaming !!"  LOL   Oh, but I was sorely tempted !!! LOL.   Bruce's "Glory Days" was certainly ringing in my ears yesterday !!! LOL.

First picture is of police horses which had just been brought out of their transport and the two smaller ones to the right are new police horses and they had just brought them along to start getting them used to people and noise so the police officer asked me not to approach them but I got a lovely nuzzle from the big fellow on the left.....he was beautiful !! :)

Followed by a couple of the Olympians and in particular Sir Chris Hoy who is the UK's greatest Olympian to date and a wonderful, charming and delightful man he is too....he is a gentleman......

.......and a couple of the Paralympians on and boarding the bus..............

......and now a picture of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum from where they left.........

........and a couple of Glasgow University........

........and finally two of just some of the famous people who attended Glasgow University and the first is a statue of Joseph Lister who pioneered the use of antiseptics and secondly of William Thomson Kelvin who gave us the Kelvin Scale and these two statues are situated within Kelvingrove Park and are overlooked by the University.......

Hope you all have enjoyed a little tour around a very, very small part of Glasgow but a beautiful part too as are many parts of the city and should add that the river you see in the photo of the University is the River Kelvin which flows through Glasgow.

Sylvia.   Your wee Scottish friend and a born and bred Glaswegian !! lol.
