It would have been Etta’s 74th birthday today. I was really glad to hear that she was being rediscovered by the new generation thanks to artists sampling her on contemporary music. Her legacy lives on with the artists she inspired and in timeless songs like “At last”, “I’d rather go blind” and my ultimate favourite: “I just want to  make love to you”, which I think is the definitive version, although I do enjoy Muddy Waters’ version:

I agree Michael that her hayday was during your parents’ generation, but the fire and vulnerability she would sing with made her one of the timeless greats. Thank you for sharing, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Your rendition of "At Last" is my favorite version of all and I am certain Etta enjoyed it as well.  You are so gracious when you speak of others ... have a fantastic time golfing this weekend, Michael - I'll be watching and hoping you get to the finals!  With love, Jackie

Thanks for sharing the video and lovely to hear Michael taking the time out to respond to the news of Etta's death and we can only be thankful that we have the legacy of her voice and pray that, wherever she is, she finds the peace from all that plagued her on this earth.
