My friend Amie posted this comment on my profile after she checked out this blog and I don’t want it to get lost in the shuffle of my wall comments and even asked her permission to quote her and she said yes! Lol So here it is:

“At 3:11am on May 4, 2012, Amie Angeli said…

Cool Dude Snail!  LOL!  Love it.  The basket is beautiful.  Incredibly good work.  You should exhibit at crafts shows.  Really.  Went to "The Big" crafts show in NYC, all juried professionals, and this definitely exceeds the caliber of some of those exhibitors.  These are delightful.  Kudos, Sylvie!  Votre Amie”

...Never thought I’d be told my creations had caliber... ;D Thanks for indulging me guys! Sylvie <3

Hi Kathy, thank you sweetie, I’m glad you like them! Now, I didn’t make the unicorn on the “Can’t smile without you” but I did put the ribbon accents: I’m not that talented! Lol I can just imagine how gorgeous your outfits are, judging from the pride you have, just talking about them... Just make sure you and your girlfriend take pictures: it would be a shame not to have the perfect outfit immortalized. :D  I’m sure you’ll have a memorable weekend! :D Well, about listening to my music boxes, if the links aren’t enough, hop on over! Lol Well about the Bolton boys’s music boxes, OB’s plays “Happy birthday” because I couldn’t find anything specifically fitted for him in the music, but the design will be very personalized. As far as MB’s, it plays “Georgia on my mind”. I had so much trouble finding it, I’ll tell ya... So there you go girl: not much but better than nothing! :D Take care Kathy and have a great weekend my friend. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Okay, last picture.  The top beige and gold one with the butterfly  plays “Time in a bottle” by Jim Croce.

I picked gold because of course, time is precious and put the butterfly because it’s also fragile. The top and bottom trim with little squares was already made but the middle part, I sewed every beed one by one and it’s on a turntable. Now the left heart (if my son didn’t change the order) with the face plays “My funny Valentine”. This is one of my earlier ones too. I thought the starry eyes and the pink cheeks would be a nice touch and though I was a little annoyed at first that the smile was slightly off, I reminded myself of the theme so left as is. The heart on the right with interlocked hearts plays “A time for Us” from Franco Zeffirelli’s “Romeo and Juliet”.

I actually saw this movie in theatres as a teen and just loved it! Aside from Gounod’s opera, it’s my favourite incarnation of the story. Now the smaller heart in the middle was made long after. It plays “Mi chiamano Mimi” from the opera “La bohème”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8onvkE0Iac8

Of course, I had to pick my favourite version, heehee... I wanted to put a lot of work in it, because the character of Mimi in the opera is an artist too, although she makes flowers. Anyway, the beeds on top were sewn one by one, the flowers were on a ribbon but still had to sew the ribbon on and the kind of scales on the sides were made with wire- ties, covered and, beeded and sewn  in kind of a scaly effect for volume and I quite liked the effect. Well that’s it for now. I will of course let you know when my doll and music box for OB are done and will do my best with the other pics. Enjoy and again, thank you very much for your interest. Take care and God bless. Hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie <3

All right, the next pic: The top green one was inspired by Michael Crawford. To try and make a long story short, I first discovered how hysterically funny and movingly sensitive he is by listening to his live CD. In it, he talks about his family, his “nan” who was Irish and his 2 beautiful daughters to whom he sang “You light up my life” and meant it... :D It’s made with wide green silk ribbon, the “candle  is covered with strategically placed green stars that seem to fade at the top, as if the wax had melted. It also rests on a 4 leaf clover made with wire and only wavy ribbon. And yes, it plays “You light up my life”.

The lilac one on the left with the little girl on it plays “Put on a happy face” and you may notice that the happy face has the same pearl bow on the head. :D

The one on the right with the carousel horse plays “You are my sunshine.

The ceramic horse was part of a flower arrangement my husband gave me years ago and we secured it with bolts inside the box. The one in front with the unicorn and the happy face flower plays “Can’t smile without you” from Barry Manilow, I love that song! I’m quite proud of the flower because I threaded the beeds through wire-ties and sewed lace behind to make the petals. Again, enjoy!

Hi again friends, it’s a good thing I wrote notes on what those pics contained because I’d be in trouble! Lol Okay, today, I’ll upload my last 3 digital pictures. Oh I know, I’m sorry... :D If my son can spare the time, we’ll check for others in my photo album so I can scan them. Okay so these are earlier creations too. In the first pic, the top blue music box with the pink hat with yellow flowers, kitty cat trim  and the cameo plays “Yesterday” and feels fuzzy. Coincidentally, it has a Hurdy-Gurdy crank mechanism in it. I started making my earlier music boxes with any old material but then decided on working with silk because it feels nice, looks good and is easier to dust! :D The burgundy easy chair with the bears plays “Close to you” by the Carpenters.

I made it with a little cell phone rest I found at Dollarama: I stripped it, separated it and replaced the block seat with the square music box and covered it. The crank is underneath. Someone gave me the bear figurine. The green star-shaped one on the left I made for my eldest son with his specifications. It has a green trim with leaves, for the jungle look, (during his Indiana Jones period) and he liked the happy face and bell so added them. It’s made with a mini movement and plays the Disney song “It’s a small world”.

The red one on the right I made for my youngest son. He loves red and loves music and plays guitar so that’s all he asked. It also plays “Yesterday” because that was the only Beatles song I had at the time, you guessed it, during his Beatles period. :D Enjoy!

Hey Sylvia, I’ll try and check for Lionel singing it because that really sounds yummy! Thanks again for appreciating my work sweetie. Well, my house is my gallery and you’re welcome, no charge! :D Sylvia, pardon the pun but I think you may have “Great expectations” about MB’s music box... ;D It’s certainly the one I worked the longest on and the most intricate. Don't worry, you'll get an eyeful in due time: my daughter took 8 pictures of it... Hmm, you want a hint? It’s shaped like a map from CT to Quebec! ROTFL Ah sweetie, you and me both about him coming here... Well, at least, you should be able to see OB’s box before August. I’ve been busy fixing my boys’ pants this week so hope to work on it again soon. Thank you again for your comment, I appreciate it. Take care and God bless. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi Kathy, thank you again for your kind words and for being so faithful to my uploads. :D I’m glad you like that yellow dress, as I’ve said, I’m really proud of it. The doll reminds me of my neighbor’s daughter when she was small. Oh I’m glad for you that spring has sprung in the stores too. Kathy, when you say that you don’t know why something has to be a certain way, I think that’s the universe talking to you and that evening will be very special. I’m catching up to my PM’s sweetie so should write soon. Take care sweetie and thanks again. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie :D

It is the Wee One Sylvie and I know Stevie Wonder sang that song but I would swear I have heard Lionel singing it too.....but can I find it....I have even looked through shows he was in the UK .....can't find it but I can hear him singing it....he sings it much slower than Stevie almost in the same timing as "Hello".....have I been dreaming about Mr. Richie instead of Mr. Bolton some night ????????? ROFL

On all your dolls, books, musical boxes  ....OMG they are fantastic Sylvie.....you should have space in a Gallery to show all of them and funnily enough just looking at the pictures without first reading your descriptions I picked as my favourite your "work" box of "great expectations".....I think that is just absolutely beautiful, beautiful !! :)   I have got to say I hope it isn't too long before MB hits Quebec because I want to see HIS musical box for I feel as though all of these are the teasers to the "magnificent, stupendous, breathtaking" one.....is it shaped liked a guitar, or MB, or a clef, or a map of Connecticut, or................................go on....give us a hint !!!!!!!! LOL.    You know too I am only kidding....I can well understand why it has to remain a secret but I really do hope it isn't long before he hits Quebec !! :)

All right, last one for today. As long as I’m showing you dolls, the next one is the first rag doll I made from scratch. She’s a character named Fanfreluche from my favourite show as a child. She’s musical and plays “Thank heaven for little girls” too. The character was a doll who read stories and actually entered the books to change what she could fix in fairytales, which of course would go wrong but work out in the end. Hope you can assess what she looked like here:

or here:

The pink music box on the left plays, what else “La vie en roes” included with rose-colored glasses and the blue and white one on the right plays “Brahms waltz” I think. That’s what it said on the label. Please feel free not to comment, because I have 3 more music box pictures to go, that I’ll probably put up at the end of the week. BTW Sylvia, I’m glad you like my phone! :D Oh wow, by Lionel, do you mean Lionel Richie? Did he sing that song too? I only know the Stevie Wonder version.  Well take care girls and thank you again very much for your interest. Big hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie<3
