Hey Kathy, thank you for your comment sweetie, glad you like it. :D Wish we all had that attitude, right? God bless all ladies with purple hats! :D Take care Kathy and have a great day! Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hey Sylvia, thanks for your comment sweetie.  The hat started out by being a simple straw hat that I meticulously covered with felt with as few seems as possible. The music box movement is encased in a plastic see-through paperweight. Funny enough, the paperweight cost less than buying the movement alone, go figure. I covered the paperweight with purple ribbon so I could sew the hat on it. I felt it was more discreet and elegant than putting it on a bigger box that I wouldn’t know how to decorate... Glad you like it Sylvia! :D Take care and thanks again. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi Sylvie and thanks so much for sharing that picture for that is truly delightful and I doubt if anyone would suspect it is a music box as it just looks like a hat you would put on your head and needless to say love the little "story" that goes along with and how true !! lol

Thanks again Sylvie !! :)

Hi all, I was finally able to get a picture of the music box I made for my opera buddy yesterday. She’s an absolute inspiration to me and I want to be her when I grow up, if I do grow up… :D When I decided to make a music box for her,  I first bought the music box movement which is “Mi chiamano  Mimi” from the opera “La boheme” by Puccini  and would figure what to make with it afterwards. What made this music so appropriate is that Mimi, the character in the opera is  an artist who makes pretty handmade things. After much pondering,, I decided on something simple, tasteful, understated  but symbolic: a purple hat. The explaination is the following:

“BEAUTIFUL WOMEN

Age 3: Looks at herself and sees a Queen!

Age 8: Looks at herself and sees herself as Cinderella/Sleeping Beauty

Age 15: Looks at herself and sees herself as Fat/Pimples/Ugly

(Mom, I can't go to school looking like this!)

Age 20: Looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" But decides she's going anyway !

Age 30: Looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" But decides she doesn't have time to fix it so, she's going anyway !

Age 40: Looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" but says, At least, I am clean and goes anyway !

Age 50: Looks at herself, and sees "I am" and goes wherever she wants to go !

Age 60: Looks at herself and reminds herself of all the people who can't even see themselves                              in the mirror anymore. She goes out and conquers the world !

Age 70: Looks at herself & sees wisdom, laughter, and ability, goes out and enjoys life !

Age 80: Doesn't bother to look. Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to have

 fun with the world !

Maybe we should all grab that purple hat earlier !”

My friend turned 82 this year. :D She loved the music box (lodged underneath the hat and winding from the  bottom) and the story attached and shows it off to anyone who’ll see it… Hope you like it! Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi Kathy, well thanks for persevering and posting sweetie, I really appreciate it. I hadn’t changed any settings so I can’t tell you what kept you from posting. I’m glad to hear you like it! :D I have yet to hear from Orrin: hubby checked the Post Canada site last week and it was still in transit, go figure... It took 6 days to get a package from Scotland to here but over 2 weeks from here to CT. Maybe I should have kept Sylvia’s Royal Mail box and reused it... :D I’ll keep you all posted if or when I hear from him. Thanks again Kathy, take care. Big bear hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Aww, thank you Jaana, I'm glad you like them! I'm taking a little break for a couple of weeks to heal my poor fingertips but I have another project lined up after that. I don't know how long it'll take though, but they all seem to get more and more elaborate and take more time, so not sure when you'll  see it, but I'll keep making them for sure. Thank you so much for posting Jaana, you're a sweetie. :D Big warm hugs, sincerely, Sylvie xxx

All right guys, here are 2 more pics of OB's music box while open. I thought I should mention that the beeds on top are OB's initials in braille. :D I didn't know his favorite colors so I asked my daughter to pick the closest green to the August birthstone: peridot. Now the inside design I've had in my head for a very long time and somehow, when Mary, (M&M's) asked me why I hadn't made a music box for Orrin, somehow it all came together. My design was to incorporate a guitar, with both the letters O.B. in the design and a lightning bolt. Incidentally, those are actual guitar strings sewn on it... :D I must say I thought it was pretty creative of me to use the winding key as a wammy bar! Hope you enjoy those: I'd say I'm pretty proud! Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Well my friends, believe it or not, the moment has finally arrived: Orrin's music box is finished! I finally finished it tonight so I can be proud it was finished in time, ha ha ha... :D As all my other ones, it's an enclosed one, but I made a fake lid. I'd say it stands close to 6 inches tall and I estimate about 10 inches long. I hope the pics are self-explanatory, but if you have questions on how what was made, let me know. It's made, aside from the wooden box, mostly out of plastic and a well-traveled leather bag, which I thought was fitting for Orrin. :D The leather bag was cut in strips, braided and sewn individually. Again, if you have any questions, just ask. Oh, BTW, it plays "Happy birthday". Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie <3
