Hi everyone, this blog will be an attempt to keep my friends and other site lurkers updated on what’s been going on in our little MB world. I only want to write about newsworthy items relevant to his career and life when it’s appropriate. The main reason I’m doing it is to stop repeating myself and stop having to search for previous posts. Since I’m on the site on a regular basis, I thought it would be helpful. :D Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie :D

There was a lot of love in the air for Michael Bolton last night as he performed an incredible show at Newcastle’s City Hall. The American singer, songwriter who was supported by Gabrielle has certainly still got it at the ripe age of 63.  Michael Bolton at Newcastle City Hall. Pic: Marie Westmoreland. Not only did he sound the part, but he looked the part too, dressed impeccably in a black suit with a single diamond stud in his left ear, which glistened under the stage lights.  Adoring fans cheered and sang along delighted as he interacted with them, shaking hands, answering questions and performing requests.  One he claimed he’d not done for a long time was Nessun Dorma, which he dedicated to the late Luciano Pavrotti, before delivering an epic performance which was executed in spine-tingling style.  Backed by a fantastic five piece-band and two female vocalists, the Grammy Award winner’s set was packed with original self-penned songs as well as several covers including Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life and Otis Redding’s classic Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay. His laid-back, humorous manner was entertaining, as he joked about how his career was a slow burner.  He reminded fans it “took 18 years to become an overnight sensation”, and referred to his teenage years being just 12 years ago. His distinctive vocals were strong as he delivered hits such as How Am I Supposed To Live Without You, a song he co-wrote for Laura Branigan, which he performed with backing singer Sam Flay. The duo took centre stage mid-show to perform a number of songs from his 2011 album, Gems: The Duets Collection, including The Prayer, as well as a cover of Adele’s Make You Feel My Love and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell’s Motown hit Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.

A string of classic power ballads, including Said I Loved You...But I Lied and Time, Love, and Tenderness were real crowd pleasers too. This man could sing the alphabet and make it sound amazing. But it was when the legend made his way into the crowd to perform When A Man Loves A Woman that proved to be the icing on the cake as fans got the chance to grab a selfie with the star.  As the show ended, Gabrielle, who’d opened the show, joined Bolton and his band on stage to take a bow to a standing ovation. It’s rare to see someone of her calibre as a tour support, and she delivered a fantastic set which felt like a show in itself.

Opening with the uplifting hit When A Woman created a feel-good vibe and before singing her ‘90s hit Give Me A Little More Time, the Hackney-born, Brit Award-winning singer-songwriter explained how she was pregnant with her son when it was released, and he’s now 21.  You forget how many great songs Gabrielle has released as she performed more hits such as Rise, Sunshine, and Out Of Reach, which she wrote for the film Bridget Jones’s Diary, before ending with Dreams Can Come True, which topped the UK charts in 1993.  She proved, just as Michael Bolton did, that good music stands the test of time.

I was told there were unruly fans dampening the evening at that show, but you'd never know from this article! I have another article and item of interest, be right back, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi everyone, I’m a little backed up in updates, so let’s start with my last post. Michael only appears in  Jacob Whiteside’s video, he doesn’t sing with him on the song. Also, as a matter of reference, the concert Michael had to cancel was quickly rescheduled for May and from what I hear, Michael is better than ever and even sang "Nessun dorma" in Newcastle!  OK, so here is an article from Cardiff:

Michael Bolton, who has announced a date at Newcastle City Hall

Michael Bolton took a relaxing stroll around Cardiff Bay yesterday before wowing a sell-out audience last night, at St David's Hall.

The US singing star is a visitor to Cardiff every couple of years or so and once again he didn’t disappoint. This was a high quality performance – and the ladies really do love him and what he sings.

Life was not always a bed of roses for Bolton. He makes a passing remark to how he struggled to put enough food on the table at times and reminded us that he took 18 years to become an “overnight” sensation. Working hard year after year finally paying off.

So while Bolton knows what the hard times were like, he is now enjoying the good life touring the world.

Connecticut-born Bolton may be 63 but he has lost none of his appeal and knows how to get up close and personnel with his adoring audiences.

That meant on one song Bolton suddenly appearing on a box in an aisle to serenade fans with When a Man loves a Woman – and didn’t they love it?

Love songs such as How Can We Be Lovers, Bob Dylan and Adele’s Make You Feel My Love and To Love Somebody, of course, are the staple diet at his concerts.

But he did step out the love zone for the bluesy Sweet Home Chicago, Sinatra’s That’s Life and one of his old favourites, Otis Redding’s Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.

Bolton was backed by a polished seven-piece band with two singers and they took over and keep fans entertained while the singer did quick clothing changes. And the audience also got involved singing happy birthday to Bolton’s drummer, who probably has never had so many people wishing him well.

He’ll probably head back to Cardiff in two years’ time and you can be sure that his fans will be back in numbers to watch the American heart-throb.

The show had opened up with an excellent set from Gabrielle, which included the beautiful Out of Reach and Rise, encouraging one loved up couple to get up from their front row seats to dance in front of the singer

Hi again everyone, admin just posted that Michael is apparently doing a video appearance in singer  Jacob Whitesides new song and video called "Lovesick". I've only listened to it once, but can't say I can pick out Michael's voice in it, so maybe I should listen once more. That's again, the news for now, thanks for reading, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi again everyone, now here's an interview Michael allegedly gave just before the canceled show last night.

Interview: Michael Bolton speaks ahead of Birmingham show tonight

Interview: Michael Bolton speaks ahead of Birmingham show tonight

 Friday 8th April 2016

He’s sold more than 75 million records and won multiple American Music Awards and Grammy Awards.

Michael Bolton He’s reached number one in the charts and has been a worldwide star since co-writing the Laura Branigan hit How Am I Supposed To Live Without You. But Michael Bolton describes his career as no more than a happy accident. He didn’t intend to become the face – or the hair – that sold vast quantities of records. All he ever wanted to do was write. “The singing part of my career wasn’t my idea,” he says. “I really started out as a songwriter and then kind of plunged into a business that I had very little idea about. My mother had to co-sign my contracts because I was only 15. Legally, I wasn’t of age. “But the next thing I knew I had people in the record business calling me at home, wanting to get me involved in various projects. I was a singer/songwriter but they weren’t asking me for my songs for other artists. It was kind of an accident, believe it or not.” Bolton had grown up on a diet of Motown and soul. His parents had split up and he got his kicks by listening to r’n’b. “I grew up on Motown,” he adds. “What appealed to me was the voice, the soulfulness. I was a very big Marvin Gaye fan, for instance, and Stevie Wonder. “But earlier than that, I remember singing along with Smokie Robinson. The writers were a big part of it. The feel of the music was important to me.” Bolton’s peers soon noticed his talent, even from an early age. They gave him the confidence to branch out and pursue his dream of entertaining people. “On the way to school, kids would ask me to sing the songs that they didn’t necessarily have at home. I was playing in bars by the time I was 15. “I wouldn’t say I was rough, but I was out of control. My parents were divorced and I was young and my brother was the only authority figure. “My mother did her best but it was tough to control me. I was always hanging with kids who were six or seven years older than me. “I was coming up to Greenwich Village and I rented a place with someone else. I kind of lived a lot and experienced a lot within a short period of time from the years 13-and-a-half to 18-and-a-half. The sensitivity and what I wrote about came from things that happened years after that, from relationships and observing other relationships.” Bolton is one of the world’s most popular hit makers. He’s enjoyed hit albums with Soul Provider, Time Love and Tenderness, The One Thing – and many more besides. There have also been huge hit singles, from How Am I Supposed To Live Without You and Love Is A Wonderful Thing to When A Man Loves A Woman and To Love Somebody. Writing hits is one of Bolton’s preoccupations: “We work in a very song-orientated industry, more so than ever now. The image is not as important in the breaking of a record. “The image comes into play with heavier music, like metal and hard rock, but as far as radio is concerned, everybody wants to listen to that three minutes and 40 seconds.” Bolton enjoys that discipline. He enjoys the challenge of creating an amalgam of sound and emotion that persuades listeners to tune in and not tune out. “The thing is to do that so well that people don’t want to go anywhere else when my record is on, they don’t even want to think about changing the station. To me, writing is a craft.” Despite the turbulant teenage years, Bolton is now a clean living man who takes care of himself to make sure he’s always in top shape to sing. He doesn’t do drink or drugs – and even gets to sleep early. “I don’t do any kind of abuse, there are no drugs,” he adds. “And I sleep as much as I can. The schedule is punishing enough, that’s abusing enough.” Michael Bolton plays Birmingham’s Symphony Hall tonight and tickets have now sold out.

Now I know Michael has to answer the same questions over and over again, but it sounds to me as if the quotes were taken directly from his book. What do I know? In any case, this was obviously for promotion. Incidentally, Michael has posted on FB and other social media that he's doing better and should be good to go tomorrow and another date is being worked out for the missed concert. That's the news for now,  thanks for reading, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi everyone, I'm a little late posting a couple of articles that have been posted in the past couple of days. First, one about the Nottingham concert on Wednesday:

Michael Bolton with support from Gabrielle live at Royal Concert Hall: Review

April 8th 2016

By NottmPostEG  |  Posted: April 07, 2016

By Kevin Cooper

"Michael Bolton who has Grammy awards coming out of his ears"

Technical difficulties delayed the start last night of an evening of laid back cabaret style entertainment from the legendary Michael Bolton and his special guest Gabrielle, but this packed Royal Concert Hall crowd were instantly forgiving.

Taking to the stage with only two backing singers, a guitarist and drummer, the enigmatic Gabrielle opened proceedings with When A Woman, proving that she has lost none of her vocal range as her voice soared around the auditorium. Other delightful tracks included Say Goodbye, If You Love Me and the very beautiful Fallen Angels. Her acoustic set rose to a crescendo with her hits Sunshine, Rise, Out Of Reach before she left the stage to rapturous applause after delivering a powerful Dreams.

Next up was Michael Bolton who has Grammy awards coming out of his ears, has had nine number one hits and has sold over 75 million records, and last night had no difficulty in getting this predominantly female audience to scream and shout as he took to the stage.

From the beginning Bolton's laid back interaction with the audience set the pleasant and friendly tone of the show, and his voice showed no signs of having aged as his opening numbers included To Love Somebody and (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay. He crooned his way through Said I Loved You But I Lied and Frank Sinatra's That's Life.

After a bluesy Sweet Home Chicago, Bolton left the stage leaving it to the band. Showcasing their talents, each band member was given a slot to impress and that's just what they did.

Back onstage, Bolton was joined by Sam Fry, one of his backing singers to deliver How Am I Supposed To Live Without You, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, a cover of Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Your Love and a very moving The Prayer.

And then he was off stage again, leaving Fry to belt out some of his greatest hits. Later appearing in the crowd to sing When A Man Loves A Woman, Bolton did what he has always done best, pulled at the collective heartstrings of women everywhere with How Can We Be Lovers, and Time, Love & Tenderness.

Choosing the mellow sound of Georgia On My Mind to conclude things, Bolton left leaving the audience wanting more. And that could have been because they had seen so little of him during the preceding 90 minutes. With two costume changes, two musical interludes and expensive ticket prices, some of the audience will no doubt have been a little disappointed.

This means, so far, no new songs in the setlist, but as I told my new friend Markham, the tour is just beginning. I'll be right back with another article. Sylvie :D

Hi everyone, well today I’m posting something old, but newly found. This was posted 5 days ago on YouTube and it came to our attention thanks to Florin. This is a song that was commissioned for a sick little girl several years ago, but it surfaced on Spodify, Google and Deezer. The song is simply called “Song of love for Lindsey”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8xWwdyCPEE

The YouTube page mentions a Songs Of Love Foundation, so I’m guessing it has something to do with the release of the song. Enjoy! That’s the news for now, thanks for reading, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi everyone, today, I'm posting an exception to the usual news. I suppose you could say it's news, but it's really old news: try 1988! A new friend of mine found this interview again. I'd recorded it years ago, so I guess I deleted the link. In any case, it's 41 minutes long and it comes on right when you get to the site. I do hope the link works directly, otherwise, copy-paste it into your browser:

It's worth every minute of listening, so enjoy! That's the old news for now, thanks for reading, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hey Robin, you read right: there was a blog and a picture posted about it on this site and possibly Twitter and FB. That should be interesting... :D Now if we could only get a release date for the CD, it would be nice. I'm sure the U.K. ladies will let us know of any new songs in the setlist, so stay tuned. :D Take care girl. Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3
