Hi everyone, this blog will be an attempt to keep my friends and other site lurkers updated on what’s been going on in our little MB world. I only want to write about newsworthy items relevant to his career and life when it’s appropriate. The main reason I’m doing it is to stop repeating myself and stop having to search for previous posts. Since I’m on the site on a regular basis, I thought it would be helpful. :D Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie :D

FOX Networks Group (FNG) Asia's highly anticipated original series, Bolt Of Talent will document award-winning American songwriter and pop culture icon Michael Bolton's search for undiscovered gifted singers across Asia.

Eight singer-songwriters hailing from Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand have been chosen from scores of auditioning hopefuls to compete for a dream record deal and World Tour with the legendary man himself: Michael Bolton. These contestants will compete in rigorous musical challenges throughout this first season, coached, mentored and judged by the musical maestro himself, after which only one of them will be crowned the winner.

With distinctive personalities and a range of experience, viewers will get to know the stories of each of the contestants competing against one another, including Greg Ramanado (Malaysia), the oldest in the competition at age 30 aiming to win before it's too late; quirky Holly Lou Wei-Chen (Taiwan), whose classical training shines through in her music and Cassandra Anne (Malaysia), the high school student whose soulful voice leaves you wanting more. These are just three of the eight contestants vying for the grand prize.

Bolt of Talent follows Bolton as he travels across the region to discover the most hidden of raw Asian talent. A relentless seven-week journey featuring exciting challenges will culminate in four musically gifted finalists being hand-picked by Bolton. These four contestants will be asked to reinvent, rearrange and reproduce a range of Bolton's Greatest Hits in hopes of striking a chord with not only the audience, but also, the man behind the music. These contestants will come to understand what it takes to have a long and global career in the music industry. They will get a little help from the show's co-hosts Sandra Riley Tang from Singapore, Morisette Amon from the Philippines and Lydia Sarunrat Deane from Thailand.

With this once in a lifetime opportunity, the four aspiring performers must impress Bolton and truly go the distance to prove that they possess the Bolt of Talent.

Exclusively on Star World (Astro Channel 711/722), the seven-part series takes the audience to four major cities: Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Taipei in this original production that premieres on Aug 16 at 9.30pm.

It sounds like it’ll be, for now, on Star World which I’m guessing is overseas. However, at least we should be hearing about it earlier than expected so it’s all good. That’s the news for now, thanks for reading, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi everyone,  Gail posted this great article listing Michael’s funniest cameos from the past decade:

https://www.tvovermind.com/tv-news/funniest-michael-bolton-cameos-a...

Personally, I think they skipped over one of the funniest, which was the “School of Michael Bolton” on Jimmy Kimmel, but maybe the video wasn’t available. In any case, it’s impractical to copy the article because of the embedded videos, but the article reads nicely, hope you enjoy. That’s the news for now, thanks for reading, sincerely, Sylvie :D

Hi everyone, here’s a wonderful article posted by Andrina from MBC on Facebook and shared by Sylvia, on the innovative work MBC is doing in the New Haven, CT, area.

Michael Bolton’s charity helps kids heal through music | FOX 61

http://fox61.com/2017/06/19/michael-boltons-charity-helps-kids-heal...

NEW HAVEN -- Michael Bolton grew up in New Haven and has made it his mission to help heal the hurt that some kids have experienced..

Bolton struggled as an artist and musician for 20 years before he had a hit, during that time he was also trying to also raise three children.

He said it was hard, he and his family got eviction notices and they fought to keep all together.

When he found success, he knew he'd find a way to give back. And he is with a program called "beyond trauma." it's helping kids heal and find new hope through music.

The journey to that "better place" begins in this little music room, at new horizons school in new haven.

"When you're feeling stress or worked up and you can come here, you get really lost into playing and it just gets you in a better place," said Kiara Moore.

It's part of the Michael Bolton Charities music therapy program called 'Beyond Trauma: Healing Through Music.'

"It's given them a way to express themselves, what they've seen, what they feel, a way out and it gives them this positive perception on life that they did not have," said Bolton.

Some students have been victims of domestic violence, others have witnessed violence or experienced some kind of trauma, loss or the grief of losing a loved one.

"We're talking about domestic violence and people growing up and living around extreme violence-- its is a very serious form of PTSD. Music is allowing these kids to become engaged and allows them to speak in a way that they have never been able to," said Bolton.

Music therapist Cyd Slotoroff says some students sing, others learn and play instruments or write and perform raps. But whatever the format it all promotes healing, happiness and hope.

"Music is powerful and it's flexible, so that I can meet the kids wherever they are. Some kids will share things they've never shared before,"  said Slotoroff.

"It changed a lot for me... before I get fired up..she say 'come here play some music'... by the time I leave I forget what I was mad about. It just erase everything. I just git my mind to the music...everything ward of, the madness whatever the problem is, then I just go back to class and do what I do," said Anton Hall.

'With some kids we'll do a lot of playing and not as much talking.. and look at feeling sheet..so they learn to identify their feelings.. and they say wow.. i can change what's going on with me."

"There is great hope and there are great efforts being made and now there are great breakthroughs we are excited about. There's something that feels profoundly right about it," said Bolton.

Bolton said his charity is also working to create a family justice center in New Haven to offer support, shelter, counseling and legal help to victims of domestic violence.

Hi everyone, here are a couple of articles relating to last Saturday's festival in the U.K., I'm sorry I'd forgotten the first one. First one was shared by Katia, second one by Sylvia:

Michael Bolton, Bryn Terfel, Kim Wilde, Billy Ocean and more set to appear at Upton House and Country Park festival

NEXT week Upton House and Country Park in Poole becomes a showcase for some of the biggest names in the music business.

The three-night festival kicks off with a ‘Classical Spectacular’ on Thursday, June 8, followed by an ‘80s Extravaganza on Friday, closing with internationally renowned singer-songwriter, Michael Bolton on Saturday, June 10.

Michael said: “I love performing in the UK and especially at an outdoor concert. I’m looking forward to seeing my fans again at Upton Country Park in June and promise them a fantastic occasion.”

Organisers say it is a real coup to have multi-million record selling Michael perform at the Upton House Music Festival.

He has won two Grammys, six American Music Awards and has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

His latest single, Old Time Rock’n’ Roll has been playlisted by BBC Radio 2.

Festival spokesman Stephen McManus said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured Michael’s services for Upton House Music Festival. He is one of the world’s leading performers and the festival will be a wonderful opportunity to see him in a festival setting. He always puts on a fantastic show and I am looking forward to it immensely.”

Michael, whose new album Songs Of Cinema is out on February 10, has sold more than 60 million records worldwide.

His new album – the 27th in a career spanning 40 years – includes classics such as When A Man Loves A Woman, Stand By Me, I Will Always Love You, Cupid and As Time Goes By.

Other world renowned musicians include bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, who headlines the Classical Spectacular with Australian soprano Lauren Fagan, the celebrated BSO Concert Orchestra conducted by the acclaimed Gareth Jones, and all female electric string quarter Escala.

King of R&B Billy Ocean, is headlining the ‘80s Extravaganza on Friday, June 9 with Kim Wilde and Toyah.

Billy said: “It’s party time at Upton House! I’m really looking forward to having a great night with all my friends in Dorset.

My band and I will be putting on a special festival show packed with all my hits and favourites – perfect for getting everyone up and dancing.”

Trinidad-born Billy has been a mainstay of the British and international R&B scene for 40 years, has had a string of top hits and has been showered with music awards ranging from Grammys to Brits.

His unforgettable hits include When the Going Gets Tough, Suddenly, Love Really Hurts Without You, Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car, Red Light Spells Danger, Caribbean Queen and Love On The Run.

His latest ‘best of’ album, the 30-track Here You Are, was released this year and went straight to the top of the charts.

Joining Billy at Upton will be ‘80s punk icon Toyah Wilcox. The pop star and actress has close links with Dorset through her 30-year marriage to Wimborne born and bred King Crimson musician, Robert Fripp, and her time spent living in Witchampton.

She said: “Dorset is very close to my heart and I love returning there whenever I can. It will be great fun playing Upton House Music Festival as well as meeting up with a few old friends.”

Toyah, whose 13 top 40 hits included It’s A Mystery, I Want To Be Free, and Thunder In The Mountains also includes a starring role in the mod movie Quadrophenia and work with Sir Laurence Olivier on her 35-year CV.

She added: “I love the variety in my career – it keeps it all fresh and I’ll certainly be looking to put on a colourful, energetic and exciting show for the 80s fans at Upton House.”

Completing the trio of ‘80s superstars will be Kim

Wilde, whose first single release, Kids In America in 1981, was a worldwide hit and launched a career which has so far yielded thirteen studio albums and more

than 30 singles, bringing sales of more than 20 million records.

In 1983 she was voted Best British Female Singer at the BPI Awards. She continues to perform on tours and festivals all over the world and was the recipient of a British Academy of Songwriters Composers & Authors Gold Badge Award in October 2015.

Kim, also a radio presenter and renowned landscape gardener, said: “I’m so looking forward to coming to Upton Country Park – I’ve heard the grounds are wonderful and I’m hoping to take a look around, especially to see the Walled Garden’s borders.

“But my first love is singing and because I love the special atmosphere of outdoors summer concerts I can’t wait to get up on stage to belt out Kids, Water On Glass, Cambodia, You Keep Me Hanging On and some of my newer songs.”

Award-winning Upton Country Park, home of the Grade II Listed Georgian mansion Upton House, has more than 130 acres of parkland, shoreline and formal estate gardens – and is just three miles from Poole bus and railway stations. Buses run along Poole Road which is the road next to the venue.

Last year’s Upton House Music Festival featuring Jools Holland, Katherine Jenkins and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra proved to be a runaway success which the promoters are hoping to emulate this year.

The spectacular Upton House Music Festival was so successful that next year’s event is already being planned.

The three-day festival which ended on Saturday attracted thousands of people to the Poole venue.

Attendance was more than 20% up on the previous year as music fans flocked to see a host of big names, including Michael Bolton, Billy Ocean and Sir Bryn Terfel.

Festival spokesman Stephen McManus said: “We will certainly be back in 2018 and are currently in the middle of deciding which artistes we may want for next year.

“Once we have everything in place – which does take time to get it right – we will be able to announce dates and the line-up.

“I am glad so many people had such a great time. As the festival grows we are learning more about exactly what our audiences want – and we certainly take all their comments into account.

“We were blessed with the weather on the final two nights, but even on the first evening, which was more inclement, it was so good to see the public braving the elements and enjoying their picnics.

“Our next big Dorset show is Olly Murs in Kings Park, Bournemouth, on Saturday August 5 and I hope as many people as possible who were at Upton will come along to see this fantastic singer.”

Social media exploded with messages of thanks following the Upton festival.

Online comments from Michael Bolton fans included: ‘Michael thanks once again for giving us another outstanding show at Upton House!!!!’ (annathome28); ‘Such a great performance in Poole on Saturday come back soon’ (goldysar) and ‘Great performance in Poole’ (aresti.anna).

Other comments included: ‘Fabulous time at the 80s night. Toyah, Kim Wilde and Billy Ocean were all outstanding. Totally relived my youth. Well organised event. Look forward to next year’ (Vanessa Jane).

‘First time visiting this event, we went for the 80s night and it was excellent. Please do another one next year. Well organised, no trouble and great acts’ (Marie Cole).

And even 80s star Toyah, who said she courted husband Robert Fripp just a mile from the venue more than 30 years ago, tweeted: ‘UPTON HOUSE 2nite…..4,000 people and no rain…….. yipeeeeeeeee xxx’.

Hundreds of people enjoyed fine dining courtesy of Beales Gourmet in private marquees and watched the shows from front of stage seats. Others took advantage of the large variety of food and drink stalls.

Three charities ended up thousands of pounds better off as generous festival-goers dug deep for Forest Holme Hospice, Project Q and Poole Hospital Charity.

Festival sponsors Porsche Centre Bournemouth, Mazars, Steel Raymond and United Taxis all attended the festival with staff and clients.

Upton House Music Festival began in the rain with exciting all female electric string quartet Escala, but the skies cleared as world renowned bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, Australian soprano Lauren Fagan and the celebrated BSO Concert Orchestra took to the stage.

Friday’s 1980s extravaganza saw the Upton House front lawn packed with revellers enjoying the sounds of Toyah, Kim Wilde and the great r’n’b king Billy Ocean.

And on Saturday international superstar Michael Bolton’s exclusive-to-Upton appearance saw the king of ballads even venture out into his adoring audience to perform one song surrounded by a sea of phones.
