This song captures what really happens in abusive homes..... the actions and even the emotions felt. I escaped death in an abusive marriage. unfortunately I lost my son to the monster because our laws do not protect women and children adequately and abusers know this. Thank you Michael for such a beautiful song. This is why you have remained my favourite singer since 1989. the writing I have done over the years inspired by you have kept me going sometimes when I really am low. Blessed voice and person, great motivator and inspiration to people like me.

only too often true
regardless of whether it is physical or psychological violence
both should be done to any man
the sore which leaves this violence, heal very difficult
and often they never heal completely
and the soul wears it difficult
too heavy
