"Paula Abdul, Michael Bolton and the "Earthlings". The stars of show business came today to seriously ill children in the first municipal hospital in the Avant-garde street.

In the framework of charity musicians demonstrated the latest equipment for eye care and burn units. Complicated and expensive equipment purchased with the money the charity fund "Federation". Such devices help physicians, first, to recognize the disease, for example, the eye early on and ease the pain of young patients.

For example, a bed, equipped with a computer, runs on a dry liquid. This allows the body to repeat the form of a child, avoid friction, and pressure sores, which is especially important in the burn ward.

Michael Bolton, musician:

"I'm also a father, I too have children. It is impossible to say" no "when it comes to aid charities, children's hospitals. Difference is based on advanced technologies and products, and you know it you can see all of you just can disseminate information that the hospital needs to be supported. "

This is not the first action of the charity fund "Federation". From 30 March to 1 April in Moscow hosted a charity auction in aid of the four children's hospitals. This list includes two hospitals, and St. Petersburg.

Also, action timed to coincide with another important event - the Mikhailovsky Castle today will be a charity auction, "Stars in support of Russia against severe childhood diseases." Typically, the money collected at these auctions, go to help seriously ill children and equipping hospitals with modern equipment."

"In the framework of charity Paula Abdul and Michael Bolton visited the children's hospital number 1 in St. Petersburg. They saw with their own eyes an expensive equipment purchased for the treatment of severely ill children.

Today, the children's city hospital № 1 in St. Petersburg, waiting for distinguished guests. World stars were supposed to visit the clinic in the charity event organized by Foundation "Federation". According to NTV correspondent Katerina Pravdina, children visited Paula Abdul and Michael Bolton.
Note that here expecting more of the stars, but for various reasons they have not arrived at the hospital: one could not fly, but someone changed plans. Nevertheless, the significance of the event it does not diminish.
The visit was the inspection of equipment that was purchased with the money to charities. The funds collected after the ball, which took place a year ago in Moscow on the Sparrow Hills. Then in the list of financial aid was listed, and the St. Petersburg Children's Municipal Hospital number 1.
After a year of medical equipment purchased and installed. Now the institution has a unique bed burn intensive care unit patients. There are already being treated the 11-year-old boy who was taken by helicopter from Novgorod. The child has 40 percent body surface burn.
Unfortunately, the demand for hospitals in this technique is extremely high, because there is not only saving the lives of small St. Petersburg, but also children from the neighboring regions.
The guests also visited the now Department of Ophthalmology, which also operates the equipment for a comprehensive examination of patients. And after a brief meeting with journalists visit ended with stars. People communicate with their children did not. It was not planned. However, the absence of such communication is unlikely to affect the continued support of the Children's Hospital.
In the evening will be held in the Mikhailovsky Castle charity auction. As said in a statement fund "Federation", in support of Russia against severe childhood diseases."

"The distinguished guests who attended one of the largest children's hospitals in St. Petersburg, saw a unique bed in the burn intensive care and modern devices for testing of children.

Today, the children's city hospital № 1 on the Avant-garde street of St. Petersburg's famous guests were waiting. World stars visited the clinic in the charity event organized by Foundation "Federation".

Were you able to talk to young patients with singers and celebrities who came out, he knows NTV correspondent Katerina Pravdina .

Guests arriving in the 1st children's city hospital in time, first for a long time stood in front of the clinic. Journalists and patients considered to Paul Abdul and Michael Bolton. It turned out that they are waiting for the other stars. When it became clear that others did not arrive, the company has acceded to the doctors, musicians who met in the lobby.

After a brief introduction delegation moved around, which was the first item on the intensive care burn department, which recently brought and set up a special bed. Bought it for charitable funds collected after the ball, which took place a year ago on the Sparrow Hills.

Then in the list of recipients and hit the St. Petersburg Children's Hospital. Now the treatment is on the new hardware is 12-year-old Sasha, who has 40% burns. The boy was brought here by helicopter from Novgorod.

Marina Brazol
, head of the burns unit of the 1st children's city hospital in St. Petersburg: "The bed operates on the principle of dry liquid. It creates a little pressure on the burn surface, the donor wounds, where we take skin. The bed is warm. We can adjust the temperature to warm the patient. This is important: in shock patients ill keep the temperature. "

Previously, when changing a patient in intensive care physicians had a special sterilized sand by hand. It took about 12 hours. And given the high demand for such equipment, is a branch of one thousand children a year, every minute counts.

Simplify the lives of patients and physicians and diagnostic ophthalmic center. This study is the second and last point of the program

star delegation .

The children are the stars of show business did not communicate. But this was not planned. Of course, if one of the patients left the chambers, the dialogue would be held. But the kids wanted to or not, or were on the procedures, or just tired.

But on further financial support of this fact should not be affected. Especially when the guests - an American of Russian origin, Michael Bolotin, who became Michael Bolton, but do not forget their roots.

Michael Bolton
, musician: "I too have children. It is impossible to say "no" when it comes to child care organizations, children charities, children's hospitals. We came here to see the difference - when you can use the new technology. Children sleep on new bedding. We would like to see it with my own eyes. But the most important thing that you distribute this information. And the hospital, and children receive more support. And probably all of us heart aches when it comes to children. "

In the 1st children's city hospital a lot of friends to help financially. With some, this friendship has lasted for about ten years. The only question that someone needed publicity for charitable events, while others, on the contrary, I want to remain a secret benefactor. But in any case, the value of this assistance is always equivalent."

Hi Olga and I have checked details and information on Paula Abdul's page and it is, according to everything I am seeing, still being held at the Ice Palace, St. Petersburg but please remember it is not a concert.....it is a competition and I believe it is being recorded for TV and when I watched link yesterday I was not aware of any audience  .....saw the competitors and the guests performing and the judges and they are sitting at tables away from the stage but you never saw any audience so there in fact might not be that much activity around the  venue.   The concert where Michael sang was part of the auction in the Mikhailovsky Castle and there was an audience there for all money collected from the sale of tickets was going to the children's hospital but there was nothing advertised for ticket sales to the Ice Palace, not that I saw and why we mentioned the show there was because we believed Michael was possibly going to be one of the judges at the event but in actual fact he wasn't for Michael travelled back home to the States yesterday and would have arrived home early this morning but the final of the competition is tonight and I believe it will be starting in about 10 - 15 minutes ......I have live link further up page which I hope you can access if you want to watch any of the show !! :)

Yeah, I read Twitter Paula Abdul...:))

Off-topic, but very interesting! :)))

http://leonid-zaslav.livejournal.com/5744.html

Thanks again for another link Olga and it may be a little off topic but it is still to do with MB so absolutely fine anywhere on these pages....they are all his .....and it made a good read too although little bits not quite correct especially about the change of name from Bolotin to Bolton but loved the photo that was with it and if anyone wants a translation of the article just say and I will put it on here but it is from way back and talks about when Michael went to Russia in the "delegation" that went to try and help and give encouragement to musicians after the cold war  in 1990, I think, and it also talks about The Medal of Honour Award ....but Michael didn't get that, did he ???....maybe I am reading it all wrong  but it does go on about some function to do with some Award that Michael got but of course they are numerous and he attended with his mother and one daughter and it gives a picture at the bottom and it shows Helen, and then I am sure it is Holly and Michael and it also makes reference to his grandparents coming from Russia and seemingly quotes Helen talking about her parents.

I will read it again tomorrow when my eyes are not so "skelly" after watching tennis all day and I haven't got "whack, whack, whack" ringing in my ears  because yesterday it was tennis all day, literally, for with the roof on the Centre Court they played last night practically up to cut off time at 11 o'clock and that was from 2 o'clock.....does anyone get the impression I like tennis ???? LOL    If I spot anything in the article that I have got all wrong, or something I have definitely missed out, I will come back on !!

Thanks again Olga for the link !!! :)

"MICHAEL BOLTON    MY GRANDFATHER CAME TO AMERICA WITH THE NAME OF BOLOTIN (EXCERPT 15TH)

In 1986, America was founded a medal, which the award at the annual ceremony in a giant tent, split close to the Museum Island Immigration Ellis Island. This is an exotic place in the vicinity of an island, where towering Statue of Liberty, not chosen by chance: in 1882 for seven decades, to Ellis Island was the principal directed the flow of immigrant to America. The question of registration and admission to the country of those who get here by boat, ventured on the island. Now the most successful of their descendants continue to honor this Medal of Honor Ellis Island.
This award is established the National Coalition of Ethnic Organizations (NECO). It includes more than 350 unions, representing about five million American families of different ethnic origin. This coalition of advocates for the preservation of the mosaic of American society, national and religious equality, tolerance and development of harmonious relations between ethnic groups and fighting against racism, national prejudices and religious fanaticism. Committees of the organizations belonging to the NECO system each year are selected for inclusion in the list of contenders for the award of the Medal of Honor. Presented a list of individuals who have achieved outstanding success in any field of activity, considering the board of directors NECO. He is due to make a final choice. For the first two decades of the holders of such medals were about two thousand Americans, whose ancestral roots are associated with different countries.
Since 2002, the medal's prestige grew even more, because of the fall of its honorable status was confirmed unanimously adopted resolutions of both houses of U.S. Congress. May evening of the next year, when his newspaper, I was sent to the ceremony coincided with the Day of the American armed forces. And smartly dressed audience (women in evening gowns, men in tuxedos), transported by a double-decker boat on the island, met with military guards in the picturesque uniforms of different branches of service period of the War of Independence the United States.
significance is awarded awards clearly reflect the names of famous politicians, scientists and culture, show business stars and sports, business and religious leaders, awarded the medal in previous years. Among the recipients of its - almost all U.S. presidents since Richard Nixon, as well as Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain, Governor Mario Cuomo and George Pataki, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, General Norman Schwarzkopf, film and TV stars Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Michael Douglas, Barbara Walters, Gloria Estefan ...
Under a huge tent on a wide stage in front of the two thousandth audience settled down over hundreds of recipients. As a result, even when that speech and music have been inserted in the evening is not as frequent as in the Oscar ceremony, the whole operation lasted for at least three hours. Popular television host Marvin Scott opened his own words: "We are honoring outstanding Americans, all of which contributed to the common fund, and at the same time, carefully preserved the moral and cultural values inherited from their ancestors."
Attending the ceremony were handed out a list of names and activity of recipients, as well as countries that came to America from their ancestors. Naturally, I was interested in those honorable, whose names are side by side with the word "Russia" (or the Soviet Union or its republics as countries of origin did not appear). such names in the list of the year was 13, which is not too small. (For comparison, the leaders in the list of descendants of immigrants from Italy: they had accumulated 28 and the second and third place shared by Americans of Irish and Greek roots: they turned to 23, "the Russians" were the fourth despite the fact that only a "final" list includes representatives of twelve ethnic groups.) "Our" and appeared in the top twenty of the most famous medalists years, pictures which adorned the cover of the prospectus was distributed. In this constellation, led by renowned film director Martin Scorsese, includes two of the descendants of Russians - singer and songwriter Michael Bolton and broadcaster Mike Wallace. The latter was among the few who, having received a medal, made a reply. It was heartfelt, delivered a brilliant speech to match the performance of his colleague Marvin Scott. No wonder both the audience rewarded particularly stormy and long applause.
When Bolton later in an interview talking about his grandfather who came from Russia, which is poorly remembered, that Wallace shared the living memories of his own father. Future parent of one of the creators of the popular TV program "60 Minutes" crossed the ocean at a young age shortly after the Russian Revolution of 1905. The very same Mike Wallace, who worked on American television for almost four decades, has died at the age of 93 years - 9 years after this ceremony.
After the solemn ceremony was held on the island crowded gala banquet (with "outboard" to the press) when I had a chance to chat with other "our" celebrity. Youthful and elegant, Michael Bolton, for whom the atmosphere of the mass show - routine, kept restrained and relaxed. In New York he was a guest at a celebration came from California, accompanied by my mother and one of his three daughters. Easy to Bolton in communicating difficult jibe with my memory of the huge portrait of him in the heart of New York - in the middle storefront music recordings on 57th Street near its intersection with 5th Avenue - Manhattan aorta.                  Michael Bolton with his mother and daughter     Helen, mother of Michael, told me the story of their immigrant relatives. Her father came to New York early last century from Kiev. When their family landed on Ellis Island, he was only twelve years old. New arrivals settled in the Lower East Side, where the boy identified in the school. Growing up, he worked tinker. Then he married a girl who arrived with his family from London, and soon became the mother of my opponent. Therefore, in the list beside the name of Bolton are two countries - "Russia" and "England". However, this is not his grandmother was a radical Englishwoman: her family made a stop at the Isle of Albion on the way from the same Russian Empire. Helen was a singer at one time, and then taught music in general is grateful for the fate of the fallen the lot: it is a happy mother of two adult sons and daughters. All of them received a musical education. Her husband is also descended from a family of Russian immigrants. His father came to America, young men with the surname Bolotin, but on Ellis Island, the registrar, who had a tendency to simplification, was recorded as Bolton.     entered into conversation the eminent American musician said that his "grandfather Bolotin" was born not just from Russia but from suburbs. I asked about the town, which was a small home to an ancestor of Michael, but it is so corrosive curiosity in this case was excessive. But questions about the musician himself answered willingly and without a trace of vanity.    - It is believed that the way for the son of the singer on the musical Olympus was not too long and thorny. Is not it?    - Not really, though I'm addicted to music since childhood. My brother and sister grew up in Connecticut, and in the age of eight, I changed the keys on the saxophone. And over time, became one of the few white musicians performing African blues. Some of these included saxophonists and future President Bill Clinton, with whom I later did not play music ever again. And after school I followed my older brother moved to California, where there were more opportunities for continuing music education and work in orchestras. Eventually, I started my own band. But under the Californian sun is strong competition, and settle there, the musician was not easy for a beginner. Yes, and early first marriage complicate my ascent: the family grew and financial problems were compounded. My devotion to music is not shaken, but the marriage did not survive.    - Try, however, you have managed and, moreover, as we know, still a fairly young age. Self-awareness helped free an artist?    - saved by a change of roles. I began to compose blues. When some of them became a hit song, there was a demand for them in show business. Over time, they included in their concert repertoire popular artists Diane Warren and Ray Charles. Later, to perform his songs, I became myself. Then moved on to the blues rock 'n' roll. All this finally brought me fame and as a consequence, good earnings.    - What caused the composer's desire to become more and singer? Only if the fees?    - No, not all. Of course, writing songs, hits - it is much more peaceful and profitable than the vocal performances. After all, when my songs began to execute many of the singers and actors, including the famous Barbra Streisand and Tony Bennett does not fade away, I have become truly financially independent. But almost none of the singers could not perform my songs quite well as we would like to me. Gradually growing desire to move from record albums to their own singing performances in concerts.    - But as you know, professional singing - an art that requires different talents and skills, rather than playing instruments and composing. As you succeed, such a transition?    - Not that I had never sang before an audience, I did not even know what my voice. However, recording jazz albums, I felt an urgent need to improve their vocal skills. He began to study singing in sound recordings of the best Italian singers. And to take lessons and get the opportunity to work with Luciano Pavarotti, I learned Italian. Maestro has taught me, and we had even played together. Then I learned that lesson in singing, especially the tenor, imposes stringent requirements for the singer and his way of life.    - If so, then perhaps you have kept hobbies - other interests apart from work ...    - Yes, it is hardly sufficient strength . However, sometimes I still producing movies like the script, and only occasionally allow myself to play golf, or spread to the card. Almost all of his waking hours is spent on writing music and lyrics, and then in rehearsal, recording, travel, concerts ... I feel like the throat busy, but happy.    - It is easy to find, even at a gala banquet, you not only do not smoke, but indifferent to the wines. And at the dawn of perestroika in Moscow, there were rumors about the arrival of a young American rock singer and composer. As it turned out it was you. Were you able to observe the regime then - in terms of Russian hospitality?    - I was one of the first visitors from the West, who visited Moscow and St. Petersburg in the changing world situation. I still have vivid memories of that trip, and welcome. Then I spent two weeks in the Russian society of fellow professionals - singers and composers. I take people not only benevolent, but also generously gifted. In those circumstances - and, moreover, even in his youth - the idea of a strict diet somehow not burdened.     Then it seemed that my colleagues are slow to develop cultural exchanges - as if afraid that the "Iron Curtain" could descend again. They invited me to come to performances more than I used later. Ensuing partnership has developed in America, where I had come to us accompanied by the composer-songwriters - Russian pop stars. Especially memorable meeting with Maxim Dunayevsky, Vyacheslav Dobrynin, David Tukhmanov and Stas Namin. I sincerely hope for further improvement in Russian-American relations, and attempts to fix them feel immoral interference."

Here is the picture that appeared with the article for those interested.  Michael is wearing the medal he has been presented with Sylvie for you can see the ribbon of it although not the medal and he also has on a red rose in his buttonhole which looks beautiful and obviously tux and the bowtie is perfect !! lol  The three are sitting down at a table and the picture is taken more looking straight on to his mum with Holly sitting to her left and then MB beside Holly and he is having to turn slightly to look into camera and it is, without doubt, a lovely photograph.

Hey Sylvia, thanks so much for this! May I ask what translation site you use? Just wondering. There are some errors in that article and I'm sure some things are lost in translation, but it is a historical event and it was interesting to read. I've asked Gail if  she could help with the year it was written so either she or I'll get back to you on it. You would think that the picture itself would be a big clue, at least with his hair length and also the events in years passed mentionned. Anyway, I'll let you know if I find out anything. Take care Sylvia and thanks again. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Sylvia, this event (ceremony) took place in May 2003.

The author writes:

"Since 2002, the medal's prestige grew even more, because of the fall of its honorable status was confirmed unanimously adopted resolutions of both houses of U.S. Congress. May evening of the next year, when his newspaper, I was sent to the ceremony coincided with the Day of the American armed forces. ..."

:))

Hi Olga, you're certainly keeping Sylvia busy! lol I have to say it's a little unclear about the date since Sylvia says it says "April 2" under the picture. Hopefully, Gail can help. thanks again for all the links sweetie! Take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Ok..here is my take on this.

I'm not seeing where this is a medal of honor from Russia...the picture and the award they are talking about is the Ellis Island Medal of Honor...that is what the picture of he, his mom and Holly are from as well I believe. I haven't been able to find a year but it was in the late 1990's I believe or maybe early 2000's.
What he is talking about in Russia is when he went as a good will mission with other songwriters in 1988 as one of 28 songwriters who participated in the Music Speaks Louder Than Words project - a collaboration between American and Soviet songwriters which also included Cyndi Lauper.

Thanks Gail, That sounds familiar from around that time period.

Robin in MD :)

Thanks Gail for all the information and I didn't know that Michael had received the Ellis Island Medal of Honour and I think, reading it back over again after Olga had come in to say she thought it was May 2003 because of  the authors comment, it could have been then  ! :)
