I am disappointed, why so short and missing some of the best Motown ballads such as "these arms of mine", "grapewine"

I was sure we'll get at least 12-15 songs.

Hi David and do hope you are well and everything okay with you and nice to hear from you again !!! :)

I have put a link below that takes you into the thread where there is all the information about Michael's new CD and where we are talking about it.   The trouble with doing such a theme as Motown is that there is so much material, which is all absolutely fabulous that which do you pick for, no matter what the size of the songlist, believe someone would always be disappointed in that their favourite hadn't been included......difficult one to get just right to satisfy everyone !!!   I really do feel that Michael has managed to get a good variety of favourites into the songlist and maybe we should be glad of that rather than thinking and concentrating on ones he hasn't covered !! :)

Hi Sylvia

You are right, I guess it's never enough for us, even if Michael would record an album with 1000 songs on it lol

I think the new album is brilliant!  Its a great mix of some of the most popular and well known motown songs.  Lets face it there are so many, many motown songs and each motown fan has their own favourites from this very long list (including Michael!).  I personally would like Michael to do a CD devoted to Marvin Gaye songs (their voices are so similar) but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon!   Brill CD full of passion and each track suits Michael's voice perfectly!  Looking forward to getting mine delivered on Monday!

Hi Hillary, I completely agree with you on all counts, although I do agree with Daniel that there should be more songs: never enough Michael... :D Man I'd love to have Michael do a tribute to Marvin CD and I've always wondered, if Michael had the opportunity to do 1 tribute album, would he choose Marvin or Ray Charles? He's always said that Ray was his biggest mentor, but he's also said they don't come any better than Marvin Gaye. I am personally beside myself that Michael will be singing "What's going on" on the new CD and I can't wait to find out where "Heard it through the grapevine" is. I'm sorry Hillary, I'm sure I've read your name on here before, but I don't know if you're just an occasional visitor or a lurker: have you heard the "Vision Music" trailer last month? It was a trailer that a fan found on-line and we heard that Michael had sung"grapevine", but the video was pulled quickly, so we have no details about it. At least, we know for sure that he is singing at least 3 Marvin songs on the new CD... In any case, thanks a lot for sharing Hillary, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada

Hi Sylvie,

I am a huge MB fan and have been to all his UK concerts over the last 10 years and was caught on camera when his DVD was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago.  I used to post a lot but due to pressures of work I don't have a lot of spare time now.  However I am now sitting at my laptop having left my Inbox to cook tea and am listening to MB's new album before I get back to work again!  Favourites that I keep going back to are:  The Way you do and Whats going on.  Love the sax, always been a sucker for a song with a good sax in it!  Also keep listening to Tracks of my tears but its very sentimental to me so have to have a box of tissues close by!

Like a lot of MB fans there are a lot of his songs that bring back close personal memories to me as his songs have been a part of my life and what has happened in it over the years.  Like Michael I grew up on soul music (no time for the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc too bland and unemotional - sorry!) and was lucky enough in my teens to have the priviledge of seeing the Motown Tour in the UK in the late 1960's.  Heard it through the Grapevine was the first song I danced to and I used to hide under my bedcovers at night listening to Radio Caroline as they played a lot of soul music before it went mainstream.

Over the years I have seen all the motown acts that have come to the UK and went to see the Four Tops and Temptations at the Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago.  I felt very sad as only 1 member of the original lineup was still alive although the music was still as fantastic as ever - probably felt sad because it made me feel old (for the first time ever!).

Like you I am really hoping that Micheal does at least another couple of soul CD's and at least one of them will contain sexual healing and grapevine although realistically if Michael does do sexual healing and sings it live on stage he's likely to get mobbed!  Hey ho .............as long as he's game I'm happy to do the mobbing!!..............LOL!

Tell you what - how about Michael doing a Tribute to the Blues Brothers concert - I know all the moves so he could do all the singing!  Happy to teach him the dances if he wants but he keeps saying that he can't dance.  Can't comment on that as I've never seen him dance as we don't get USA TV here so couldn't watch him on the US version of Come Dancing.  Bet he can move his hips in the right way if he wants!

By the way my holiday of a lifetime was to Canada for 3+ weeks in June 3 years ago and I went whale watching off the coast of Halifax with a marine biologist in a tiny dinghy type boat with lots of sonar on board and I saw humpbacks, balugas etc., very very up close and personal - it was awesome!  Also went to Quebec which fascinated me - French on one side of the bridge and English on the other - brilliant city!   Also went to the Canadian Museum of Civilisation and saw Martin Luther King Junior who was giving a talk there!  The totem poles were just so cool!  and so tall!  Also went to the Inuit Indian reservation - that was quite an experience!  Loved Canada, you live in a truly beautiful part of the world!  Next big holiday is going to be driving Route 66 but may need a little longer than 3 weeks to do that!  Must do that holiday in a mustang though!

Well my tea's nearly ready now and then I need to get back to work again, no rest for the wicked it seems!  Lovely to chat and I promise to look in more often now to have a chat.  Hugs and kisses to you, Hilary x

Hi Hillary and thanks for the novel! Lol Well first, lucky you to have your presence at an MB show recorded for posterity! :D OMG, I love the entire album too and though I was too young in the 60’s to have appreciated the wealth of great music first hand, I caught up on my music history in the 70’s and I’m a huge fan of Motown too. When I read the track listing of the new album, I just couldn’t believe Michael had finally recorded “What’s going on”, because I’d heard a bootleg recording of Michael singing it at a charity event in the 90’s: I can’t tell you how much I love that song! Now “Tracks of my tears”, when I heard it on the CD, took me right back to the HSN show on February 8:

His duet with Smokey was ssssmokin’! lol Oh Hillary, thanks so much for sharing those special memories... Have you ever seen the documentary called: “Standing in the shadows of Motown”? It’s a fabulous documentary about the Funk Brothers and they have tons of anecdotes about artists they worked with... I actually attended a concert, in 2005 I think it was: the Funk Brothers were opening for Daryl Hall & John Oates, can you believe it? OMG Hillary, are you kidding? You’ve never heard Michael sing “Sexual healing”?

Michael recorded it for his “Timeless classics volume 2” in 1999 and it was the lead single. I seem to remember he was in the U.K. around that time: I have a tape of him being on a chat show and everyone was very much focussed on the fact that he’d cut his hair... Oh Hillary, lolI’ll tell you something: Michael has been hinting at doing a blues album for a good while now. I’m guessing all the planets have to align properly, but I’d love for him to record “Gimme some lovin’”, which he apparently used to sing live in the early days... I love the Blues Brothers movie! :D Now about dancing, check this out:

Let me know what you think... :D Oh wait, you want to see him move his hips?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWAokLDnS6I

:D I hope you enjoy that... :D Oh wow, sounds like you had a dream Canadian vacation eh... :D A German friend of mine came to Canada and Quebec a couple of years ago, but she wished she could have been warned about the fact that they don’t speak much English in Quebec City. Okay Hillary, back to the subject of Motown, you should check another thread on this site:

http://www.michaelbolton.com/forum/topics/motor-city-tv-show?

It’s still in production and according to the link given on that thread, Michael is apparently filming a 6 part documentary about Motown and the making of his album. This is just through info found on the internet. No details have been issued from Michael’s management and it seems far from completion, but it’s a dream to look forward to... :D Well I have to say this was very stimulating Hillary and I do hope you pop in more often here. I’ll send you a friend request. Take care sweetie. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada

Hi Sylvie,

Thanks for the links, been through them quickly and will sit and watch them all when I have time.  My hubby was diagnosed with cancer in 1998 and passed away in 2002 at the tender age of 49 so spent most of that time looking after him so did miss out on some MB CD's.  However I can now get this from Amazon and listen at my leisure to Sexual Healing!

Interesting about the Motown documentary have a look at this (you may have already seen it) but its a couple of hours long

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvvFytLrSo

There is also a film made about the Temptations taken from Otis Williams Autobiography which was screened by NBC - that's good too!  Promise I will watch Funk Brothers!

Did watch Michael dancing - felt that Bruno was very harsh in his comments but did have a point or two to make - MB did seem very stiff from the waist upwards!  Perhaps a Chiropractor could loosen up his shoulders and upper back a bit!  Did give it his best though but I didn't feel he was very comfortable!

Watching your post from Feb 2013 concert (which was brilliant) it will be interesting to see if MB comes back to the UK this year and if he does will he be doing the same show here too?

Got to go now, work tomorrow!

Lots of hugs, Hilary

Hi again Hillary, I’ll make it shorter this time... :D I’m really sorry to hear about your husband passing away and so young too. Yep, that'll shift one's priorities... Well, I guess you may have missed: “All that matters” in ’97, “My secret passion, the arias” in ’98, “Timeless classics volume 2” in ’99 and “Only a woman like you” in 2002, aside from the “Love songs” compilation and the song “Our love is like a holliday” on a multi-artist Xmas compilation. They’re all fabulous! Thanks a lot for the link, I can’t wait to watch it! I have the Temptations story on DVD. :D On the Feb 2013 HSN show, it was a CD launch concert and 1 time event.  Michael has been singing 2 songs from the new album now in the past few shows and we’re of course hoping he’ll do more. Good luck on the U.K. tour sweetie. Great chatting with you Hillary, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada
