To those fans who use a screen reader like the jaws program.

It suddenly occurred to me when I was typing a post recently, whether your software is able to interpret all of the posts that are typed on here?

What I'm trying to ask is, if we use speech marks or inverted commas etc, can your program read those and are you able to read the posts ok? I sometimes type a word and then place it in inverted commas to emphasise or exaggerate its meaning.

I would hate to think that you are missing out on reading some posts because of the punctuation marks etc.

Is there a way of us posting that would make it easier for your software to translate?

I know that some people with epilepsy cant read a post if it has flashing items in it like flashing animations or signature avatars and just wondered if this was a simliar situation for you.

Please tell us if we can help or change the way we type.

I dont mean to sound condescending in this post, I genuinly dont, I am just concerned that you might be missing out on some posts.

Love Jennifer XX

Hi Jennifer, first of all, I’ve said this many times before: you’re a sweetie and I really appreciate your consideration! Jaws does read punctuation. Like for instance, if I type in , Jaws will say “symbol 74 field”, which I know means it’s a smily face. I’m frankly clueless about inverted commas but there is a change in Jaws’ intonation when an exclamation point or a question mark is typed. I think that the only thing I’ve noticed that Jaws is clueless about, is when a scan is put up, but not as an attachment. I’ve come across a few I had no clue were there on the “Follow-up info…” thread and some pix that were put up on the “Hampton Court” thread. The world isn’t blind-friendly Jen and sometimes, we just have to accept it and we can’t expect a majority of people to just change their habits, because a handful of people might read it. :D I’m just very glad there are sweet people like you, Gail and Dianna, just to name a few, that are nice enough and willing to help in special situations! If I ever think I have a problem with anything I think someone can ajust to help, I’ll be sure to post again here. As far as I’m aware, there’s only me and my friend Robin from California here who use Jaws for now. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness Jen, it’sappreciated! Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
I work with people that use JAWS on my job too and I know some of these things like Sylvie said can be a problem but thankfully this forum is much more user friendly for the members that use JAWS. I know Robin in CA is getting around better with time on this site too. She really likes it and I am so glad it's more user friendly.

We have that at my job too and some things we know at work JAWS folks cannot access and we do things a different way. I'm no expert but have seen over time this getting better.

I'm glad Sylvie and Robin in CA can both use and enjoy this forum more than the previous ones we have had over the years. Times are getting better for adaptable programs/software, not perfect but moving in the right direction thank goodness. And thankfully staff with this site are so kind and willing to assist folks that need it.

Hi again Jennifer, I just wanted to add that I didn't think you sounded condescending, I know you're just trying to help. Never having seen an avatar, I think it's just a graphic and if it's labeled as "graphic", Jaws won't tell us what it is, but it'll say "graphic". The thing is, Jaws doesn't read pictures, even if there's text on them, well, unless you have a separate program with OCR )Optical Character Recognition), which hopefully one day will be standard. On that happy note, thanks again sweet Jennifer, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
I'm not as computer savvy as others plus this hand of mine but I am trying to navigate this site. I want to thank the MB ADMIn for their best efforts. Can't write much as I had a cortisone shot today. Enough about me. I'm totally stoked.
Hey Robin, You are doing just fine on here.
Robin
Aww Juliet, thanks for the thought and good intentions! Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
Hi Janniche, as I've told Jennifer, I'm clueless about inverted commas but guessing it's some kind of punctuation in a sentence you write. Jaws is "Job Application With Speech". It's a computer program to help the blind to work on it. It reads what we're typing, in documents, on web pages etc. It's a program that talks. My friend Robin from California and I are blind: she's completely and I'm legally blind. As Robin from Maryland said, Jaws is not perfect but it's getting better and better and hopefully, one day, computers won't even be an issue for the blind. There you go sweetie. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
Hehe, don’t worry about it Janniche, you didn’t sound rude and don’t feel self-conscious, you didn’t know. We all have our challenges, your challenge is English! Lol I’m just teasing, you’re a sweetheart and you’re expressing yourself very well… :D Yeah, believe it or not, people who can’t see Michael still think he’s awesome…  Most people are clueless about such programs because they’re not exposed to it, that’s perfectly understandable. This is the first fan site that’s blind-friendly for the most part and I’m having the time of my life here! Take care Janniche. Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada P.S.: That’s exactly how Jaws pronounces your name! lol
Janniche. Hope I spelled your name correctly. I'm the other blind woman on here. You're doing well with English. The thing I hate is those capchas&I know nothing about those comas folks have mentioned out here. I thought :) was a smiley&maybe it's different where Sylvie is there in Canada. LOL

Though I've never seen Michael, do you have all day? What a voice? Oh!&by the way, he has soft hands. :)

Neat speaking with you Janniche
No, we've never spoken until now. :) is smiley, I do believe. Is that a white box? You're in Norway? Wow! Land of the midnight sun. I know. Off topic here.
You go girl. Love Rockin' pneumonia by Johnny Rivers. You go girl. :)
You mean to tell me that if one speaks of general off the topic stuff, it automatically goes in to the off topic subject matter? Wow! Awesome. Love it because, I'm not a computer savvy.

I can get in to trouble out here&I mean good trouble. I could type, type&more type&my hand will raise cane (Not not Tommy (Mugs) Cane with me. Don't mind the sick sense of humor.

I'll go now. Don't want to bomb the scroll. :)
