Welcome everyone to the 2014 Tour Review Thread. The upcoming year is going to be exciting with so many concerts scheduled already around the globe!!! Feel free to share the details of your concert adventures, photos, videos etc. This is the best time to be a Bolton fan with so many concerts and the MBC Charity Event which will most likely be held later in the year too. Michael has multiple projects in the works so we never know what will happen next!!!! I appreciate the opportunity to start a new thread once again for 2014 to give us all a place to share the best part of being a fan--- experiencing Michael in person doing what he does best-SING!!!!!!
I am looking forward to another fun year of posts and sharing great times by the best Michael Bolton fans in the world on this forum. I will post events to keep the thread moving along as the concerts come up as I have in the past.

Hi, everyone. I am going to try to answer some of the questions that popped up on the forum regarding the Michael Bolton concert at the ice skating event in Cleveland last Saturday. I was fortunately enough to attend this event. Scott Hamilton is an Olympic Gold medal ice skater who just happens to be from Cleveland area. After he successfully fought two battles with cancer at the Cleveland Clinic, Scott Hamilton created a foundation to fund cancer research and patient support services at the Clinic. The foundation hosts an annual ice skating exhibition at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland where the Cleveland Cavaliers play NBA basketball. The arena and basketball team are owned by Dan Gilbert, who is heavily involved with Detroit renaissance and Michael's Detroit project. (Cleveland and Detroit are approximately 160 miles distant from each other.) I had already agreed to go to this year's event with my sister before musical guest was announced. Imagine how happy I was to learn that Michael and band would be providing music for these amazing skaters.
As you can see in many of the photos that have been uploaded to this site, the stage was set up in the "end zone" at one end of the ice skating rink. The lighting was very dim so it was extremely difficult to see anyone in the band. We could only really see Michael or Jason or anyone if they were on the large video screens which were primarily focused on the skaters. There were no front row seats, because the stage abutted the ice. Michael commented several times that he and band had amazing, fantastic, front row seats for the event. The other three sides of the skating floor were lined with chairs filled with people in sequins and tuxedos who had paid high dollars to attend the gala that followed the skating exhibition. The thousands of fans who filled most of the rest of the seats in the arena paid about $20 per ticket.
The show started with Scott Hamilton in tuxedo at mid-ice welcoming everyone and thanking them for their support of the foundation. Scott then left the ice to watch the performance. Michael joined the band on stage with the usual opening stanza of Go The Distance, but the first true song was Sole Provider. All fifteen of the skaters came on ice for a quick skate around: Ilia Kulik, Patrick Chan, Jeffrey Buttle, Katilyn Weaver & Andrew Poje, Michael Weiss, Ryan Bradley, Sinead Kerr & John Kerr, Kim Navarro & Brent Bommentre, Isabella Tobias & Ilya Tkachenko, and Meryl Davis & Charlie White. There is a snippet of this Sole Provider segment on the forum.
Then the real fun started. The lights went down, and each solo or skating pair skated in a spotlight to an MB tune. Unfortunately, I cannot remember who skated to which song. I was too wrapped up in the whole experience to take notes. The skaters were amazing and, of course, Michael and band always sound fantastic. Michael gave a very abbreviated version of his pre-song spiel while the skater took to the ice in the dark and the name of the skater/pair was shown on the video screen, then the spotlight took over while the skaters and musicians did their thing.
There were no surprises in song selection. If I remember correctly, the set included: Sole Provider, You Don’t Know Me, To Love Somebody, Georgia, Dock of the Bay, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, The Prayer, How Can We Be Lovers, Nessun Dorma, Said I Loved You But I Lied, How Can We Be Lovers, When A Man Loves A Woman, Go The Distance, Time Love & Tenderness. Amanda sang the “Kelly duets” and her That’s What Love Is All About/Missing You Now/When I’m Back on My Feet Again montage. The new anonymous backup singer sang backup only. The Cher/KISS/Streisand montage was not included in the show.
Michael commented at one point that they really should do something like this more often because it was really fun to watch the amazing athletes. He also teasingly warned Amanda not to get distracted while singing their duets.
Dorothy Hamill was a special non-skating guest. She took to the ice at one point to thank everyone for participating/attending. (She’s the one in the black outfit on the video screen in one of the pictures on the forum.) Dorothy said that she had always been a fan, but after working with Michael and team all day on the show, she now knew that Michael was “really dreamy”. Yes, she did get a hug from MB at the end of the show.
Scott Hamilton commented that he had attended an MB concert in Denver back in the late 90s. When he heard Georgia, he immediately redid his program so he could compete to this song. He also said that there are only two kinds of ice skaters in the world – those who had competed to a Michael Bolton soundtrack, or those who were soon going to be skating to an MB song.
Michael did appear in the audience at the edge of the skating rink at the other end of the arena with the usual When A Man Loves A Woman. He walked back to the stage while giving a “low five” to everyone in the tuxedo chairs lining the rink. (This was really the only time the lights were up high enough that we could see him.)
Go The Distance was held until almost the end of the event when Meryl Davis and Charlie White (gold medal winners for ice dancing in 2014 Olympics) finished out the individual portion of the show. Simply amazing. There is a link in the forum to a youtube video – if you haven’t seen it, go find it. It was phenomenal.
Last song was another group skate with all fifteen skaters to Time, Love and Tenderness. Scott Hamilton, along with Dorothy Hamill, gave flowers to the behind-the-scene hostesses who helped run the event, then thanked everyone for coming. Musicians and athletes seemed genuinely impressed with each other. It was a different kind of concert, but it that is was an awesome performance all around.

Thanks so much for your wonderful review Ellen. I felt like I was there with you. I love ice skating as well as being a big MB fan too so I envy you getting to experience such a special show.. MB and band had a front row view the entire time.. LOL I love Dorothy Hamill from back in her day and how cool she's a MB fan too. I remember Scott's skating to MB's version of Georgia too!
