All of us here love Michael's music and voice.  That is, after all, why we are here!  Whether the songs be fantastic originals such as "Murder My Heart" and "Time, Love & Tenderness," or the amazing covers "When A Man Loves A Woman" and "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay," there are moments in each of Michael's songs that make us take notice.  Sometimes it is a note he hits.  Other times, it is the way he sings a word, a verse, or a chorus.

So, with that said, what are some of your favorite "phrasing moments" by Michael?  I'll get us started with a couple of mine:

  • I love the way he sings, "Baby, don't you be blue," in "Time, Love & Tenderness."
  • The way he sings, "And the way you've been slaying my heart," in "Murder My Heart," well, slays me!

I can't wait to see everybody's responses!

It's easier for me to talk about thewe awesome sounds, growls in person than writing them down. See, I have to hear songs&share. yum. Because of this thread, I had a HOT! HOT! HOT! dream about the babe. :)

Thanks Sylvie and it's amazing how when words you think you hear get stuck in your brain until someone suggests another set of words and then you actually hear them......LOL    Maybe I need to get this wax taken out....what do you think ???? LOL

Hey Sylvia, it happens to me too! lol I wouldn't have even mentioned it if I hadn't actually read the lyrics somewhere. Take care Sylvia. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D

Hi!

Love this!!! OMG, lot of moments... but will start with this: In the song "What you're doing to me", when he sings/says "And suddenly someone makes you better" and after that, an "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" that for me sounds like all the feelings being poured outside....

Hi Pilar, good to read you here! Very nice choice Pilar, thanks for sharing, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D

P.S.: I've already posted about your favorite song from the RAH DVD, but do you have other favorite phrasing moments from it? XD

Listening closely to this song as I've just put it out on FB and linked through to Twitter and some talk about it there and it is "The Courage In Your Eyes" which a lot of us know Michael wrote and sang at Coretta Scott King's funeral in 2006.  I put out, following on from Michael's tweet in honour of Martin Luther King, whose Day it is today and whilst listening to, I thought of this thread and of sharing it on here because when you really listen to this all of the phrasing of words is just absolutely beautiful, absolutely beautiful.....just close your eyes and listen.

Hey Sylvia, I completely agree, thanks for sharing it. As long as I was on YouTube, I checked the suggestions and came up with another phrasing moment. In the song “Once in a lifetime”, it might have to do with the fact that Michael starts the song in a subdued way, but for some reason, when he sings: “One moment comes along”, my heart jumps and I don’t know why... :D Further along in the song, in the same musical line of the second verse: “When faith is all you need”, although it’s beautiful, it doesn’t feel the same. Frankly, just his: “One” does the trick...I’d never seen the movie “Only you” and only discovered the song in 2000, when my sister showed it to me on a “Hits from the heart 2” compilation. I’m just glad they included it on Michael’s “Love songs”! Well anyway, thanks again Sylvia, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D
