Sorry, but I hate halloween.
I always used to join in the fun with my boys and we'd dress up and decorate the house and even have 'haunted house' parties with caterpillar sandwiches, dead mouse jelly, coffin cake and gooey snot soda!!
But one year, some trick or treaters knocked on the door late at night and luckily the boys were already in bed and didnt see it, but a group of of about 4 older lads in a masks and costumes, pulled out a knife and waved in my face shouting 'trick or treat!' I was absolutely petrified.
I realised after that the knife was probably plastic, but at first glance it looked like a real one. I slammed the door in panic and went inside shaking and crying my eyes out. All I could think of was thank goodness the boys hadnt seen this because they would have been frightened out of their lives!!
Goodness only knows what could have happened if they'd knocked on an old persons door!! I dread to think!!
We've had them knocking and virutally demanding that I give them sweets or some other treat and I refuse to entertain them I'm afraid. In the Uk if they dont get something nice, they egg your house or your car!! Nice children eh? Its really hard to get frozen egg off of your brickwork and the enamel in the egg perminantly damages the paintwork on your car!!
The shops over here wont even sell eggs to children for about a week prior to Halloween incase they are going to use them to throw at peoples cars etc..
It's all gone really stupid over here and has been spoilt by youngsters being greedy. I bet none of them know where Halloween originates from and probably dont care anyway!!
I wont even open the doors to them now. I turn off the light in the hallway and pretend I'm not in!
Now we have the pleasure of firework night to look forward to!! Not that you'd know that there was an ac=tua lproper night they were supposed to let off on, they've been going off round here for weeks late in to the night and early morning even though they arent legally alowed to light them after 11pm.
My dogs arent too bad but my Mums dog hides under the chair and practically wets herself she so frightened!! I wish they ban them aswell!!
Goodness I sound like a right spoil sport dont I? I'm not really honest. I just hate the few idiots who spoilt if for the rest!!
Thats me off my soap box now !! Ha Ha!!

Oh Jen, I am so sorry you had such a trrible experience. The teenagers here aren't supposed to go trick or treating after the age of 13, but they do any way. They have that law because some teenagers like to pull tricks like you said, egging cars and hourses, toilt papering trees, I believe one year someone put balogni on my moms car. It gets kind of crazy around halloween. I only love Halloween because I love to see how cute the little tots are in there costumes.

Thats a brilliant idea about there being a law against older children T& T's. I wish our politicians here would do something like that!!
I cant belive that someone put balogni on your Mums car? How stupid?
I love seeing the little ones all dressed up and love to hear their giggles as they run down the street screaming beacuse they pretend they're being chased by monsters!!
I shall have to sort out some of the photographs of the way we used to decorate our large front window.

I'm also sorry you went thru that! What morons!! Years ago, I was chased a few times by boys who wanted to throw eggs or get shaving cream on me. Those memories are not so nice, however I still have good ones of dressing up in costumes and going out with the other kids. My neighbor would have a party and I used to go to that as well. One year my neighbor's house was messed up badly by eggs and I felt so bad for them! It's sad that we have nasty people in the world who spoil it for others. But despite all of that I still enjoy Halloween, decorating my house and seeing the cute kids coming by...that what makes it worth while. Hugs, Helena

That's just terrible honestly I have no idea what some our children think this is so many of them are out of control!
I do believe it would be pretty stupid in places.
When we had a house in a place called Tumbulgum,was a nice little village but once the older people died out and the younger ones started to more in we moved to the other house anyway back to my story
We moved to Tumbulgum in 1989 so the girls were quite young and they did Trick or Treating there and I had NO idea because I, nor the girls had ever done it.So I was caught no treats but I saved myself and made homemade toffee's,boy did the kids love them I made 36 that year (and Bill had to run into town to get some lollies LOL) because as I said I hadn't been ready luckily honestly I think we use to average about 50 children at the whole school yep small village as I said the following year I made more and kept increasing the toffees every year I always had lollies for back up as well after the first year.the girls loved it and they always went with one of the adults from the village and really we all knew each other pretty well so I felt they were safe the last year we were they I made about 160 (I think the kids were comming back for seconds ;)
So I had fond times when it came to Halloween when we moved here I just bought some lollies the first year but no one has come treat or treating in the 8 years we have lived here and the girls have all grown (let's put it this way we enrolled Caitlyn for KIndergarten next year and they will have 43 children in total at that school next year :) from Kinder to year 6.
But Caitlyn's other nana took her treat and treating up the coast and she enjoyed herself
