Hey, I was wondering what everyones first experience was of enjoying Michael's music? the first time you realised you were a fan?

I must admit, my first interaction was when I watched the movie Snow Dogs a couple of years ago and heard Time, Love and Tenderness at the end, I thought it was fantastic and my love has just grown from there!

Sorry if this has already been discussed before, but I'm interested to hear your stories!

Jenna.

Hi Sylvia, glad to hear you’re having fun girl and you only know a little bit of this site! I know I always have fun reading you, but this site is just awesome, period. Now to help with your question, Barry Manilow is an American singer who’s been singing  since the 70’s and he’s considered easy listening, although he’s had  many pop hits in the 70’s and 80’s. To give you a sample, click on this link and listen to my favorite song of his, called “Can’t smile without you”:

I’m sure Helena can give you more details about his career and what he’s been up to lately. Take care my wee Scottish friend. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Hi Sylvie,

I`ve got to get a code word for when I`m not being serious - or - say to all of you - don`t listen to a word I say - take it all tongue in cheek.  Sylvie, thanks a million for what you have done but, I was only joking, I do know who Barry Manilow is.

I was really trying to say to Helena how dare she be an avid fan of his and not Michael.

Have put a little message in "Music" - saw in Facebook that admin. have posted message about Christmas album - not going to be released until 2011 - don`t give any date.

Cheers Sylvie and again thanks a million - I`m away to bed now - it is nearly 12,30 a.m. - I have been up late doing my homework - I`ve just transferred music onto my profile page - that Jennifer, she is a slavedriver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sylvia.   Wee Scottish friend.

Hi Sylvia, well, I know nothing sweetie but I don’t really know how much Barry Manilow plays in Scotland, so I didn’t think it was impossible you hadn’t heard of him. As far  as code words, my guess is that you’re not familiar with emoticons? When you want to show that you’re kidding, you type in :D which makes a sideways smily-face with a big grin… or one like this J or one like this ?) that means you’re winking… So much to learn, huh? Lol which means laugh out loud) Oh by the way, Helena is not a die-hard MB fan yet but Jennifer and I are working on her! :D You’re 5 hours ahead of me my wee Scottish friend and hope you’re sleeping and not dreaming of bloody computers. I received your PM and will respond as soon as I can. Take care sweetie. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

I did in 1991 (OMG, almost 20 years!). I was in a record shop with my sister and I saw the CD cover of TL&T and thought to myself: who is this incredibly handsome man? I bought the CD, heard LIAWT at home, felt in love and the rest is history!!!

Hello girls!  :)

Barry is heading back to London early next year and also Australia.  Well, I can't help it if I became a "Fanilow"...LOL!  Loved Barry since I heard Mandy on the Radio and also proud that he comes from Brooklyn like me!!  I belong to his fan club too.   I'm also a die-hard fan of Elton John, Boy George, Italian singer Renato Zero and the Beatles.  I love many other artists as well and can write a list of who I like and how many concerts I've been too, but this is not the thread to do that..LOL!

Sylvia...you know that saying "better late than never"...that's how I feel about becoming a MB fan.  So Sylvie, Jennifer and the rest of the gang here, are helping me to "catch up" to being a Bolton fan.  I enjoy this chance to see Michael as an artist and a person....but at the same time I will still love Barry and my other favorites...that won't change.  :)

Hugs,

Helena..xx..

Hi girls and boys

I've already told once my story, in the old forum, so I'll tell you again especially for Jenna.

As many of you know, I live in Switzerland but I'm Italian, one day in my house in Verona back in 1995 I was watching on TV Pavarotti and friends's concert  (children of Bosnia) and I saw that wonderful boy called M.B., it was soon love at first sight, before I didn't hear his songs, I didn't know him! I don't know the reason, anyway since that day I started to buy his CDs, it took many years before I could go to his concerts, my first was here in Basel at Avo Session 16 nov. 2008, a small hall, great acoustic, it wasn't allowed to take photos so as a memory I could recorder the concert from TV on my DVD player and take this photo.

THANKS TO PAVAROTTI, I'm here with this fantastic family... and  I hope to attend many, many other concerts because I love Michael Bolton!

with love

Silvy from Switzerland

Thanks for replying everyone!

Jennifer, your story was very touching, thanks for shring it with us. Yes I have heard many stories of Michael's songs and voice helping people through difficult times.

HI JENNA,

I FIRST DISCOVERD MICHAEL, WHEN I WAS SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD, SOME TWENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO,  I HAD JUST BREIFLY HEARD HIS VERSION OF "SITTING ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY".  BUT AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT, ONE NIGHT I JUST HAPPEND TO BE WATCHING STAR SEACH, WHICH I DIDN'T USUALLY, BUT THAT WAS POPULAR THEN..  ANYWAY, THE MODLING PORTION OF THE SHOW CAME ON, AND THE BACKROUND MUSIC JUST HAPPEND TO BE "SOUL PROVIDER"  I LISTEN AND TOUGHT TO MYSELF, BOY THAT'S A GREAT SONG, AND I LOVE THAT MAN'S VOICE.  WHAT'S HIS NAME?, WHAT ELSE DOSE HE SING?  I WONDER?

SO I COUNTINUED LISTENING AND AT THE OF THE SHOW, I REMEMBER WHATCHING THE CLOSING CREDITS VERY CLOSELY, SO I COULD GET THE NAME OF THE SINGER, AND THE ALBUM.  I DID, AND WROTE IT ALL DOWN.  THEN I WENT TO MY MOM, AND SAID PLEASE BUY ME THIS CASSETE BY THIS SINGER.  SHE DID, I LISTEND TO THE ALBUM A FEW TIMES OVER.  I THOUGHT WOW!! HE'S GORGOUS!!  AND I LOVE WHAT HE SINGS  AND THE WAY HE SINGS IT.  I THEN SAID TO MY MOM, PLEASE FIND ME WHATEVER OTHER MUSIC THERE IS BY MICHAEL BOLTON.  I LOVE HIM HE'S GOT A GREAT VOICE AND I LOVE HIS SONGS.  SHE THEN GOT ME, "THE hUNGER" WHICH I ALSO LOVED!!  MY FAVORITES FROM THAT WERE "THAT'S WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT"  "DOCK OF THE BAY" AND  "WALK AWAY"

THIS IS ALL TRUE, AND FROM THAT TIME ON, IT'S BEEN L-O-V-E- FOR HIM, HIS MUSIC, AND EVERTHING HE IS AND DOSE FOREVER AND EVER!!  AND AFTER I SAW HIM LIVE THE FIRST TIME, ON AUGUST 15, 1990, AT THE THEN MANN MUSIC CENTER IN PHILLI WHICH ALSO JUST HAPPENS TO BE MICHEAL BOLTON AND KENNY G DAY, ON VH1.  AFTER SEEING HIM LIVE THAT FIRST TIME, I KNEW IT WAS LOVE ALWAYS!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU,

MARY LYNN

Hi Mary Lynn,

I should like to introduce myself to you because I haven`t long been "on site" nor in these forum pages as I am pretty new to the marvels of the internet - thank goodness I found them - and I haven`t seen any previous messages by you - I just wanted to say HI !

I started with The Hunger and still believe, ONE of his best, in second place, "The One Thing" beats them all - still does - especially "I`m not made of steel".

Thanks for sharing your experience with us - hope to see more of your thoughts throughout forum in the future.

Happy Holidays.   Sylvia.     Wee Scottish friend.

Hi again Sylive,

I don't have tons of messages, but quick a few here and there. you just have to know where to look for them.  I guess, sometimes I think things get lost in it all, but I just responded to 3 or 4 other things on the site in the last few days, in fact  I actually read a lot of the messages "on site" and I have responded to your messages brfore, you probably just don't remember.but I should and wil; try keeping in better touch with all of you, I do enjoy it. It's fun

marylynn

Hi Mary Lynn, just to let you know: well, I know it can get kind of confusing and I don't blame you... :D Yes you have responded to my messages, but not Sylvia's, that I'm aware of, before this thread. Sylvias are starting to come out of the woodwork! lol There's our Scottish friend, there's one from Texas and I know at least one more from the U.K. Plus there's me from Canada and Silvy from Switzerland... I think that's why we're starting to sign where we're from, so it's less confusing. Although I always have... Take care Mary Lynn and it's good to know you'll be keeping up more! Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Hi Mary Lynn, wow, what a great story! Oh boy, I remember "Star Search"! For a second there, I thought you were going to say you saw Michael on it! I think I would have remembered that! Although I didn't necessarily watch that every week... Well again, thanks for sharing, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

P.S.: to my wee Scottish friend, Mary Lynn has been here a good while but doesn't post as much as other people. :D
