I saw Michael perform live for the very first time. It was my first road trip to CT. We saw him at Woolsey Hall, at Yale University performing with Orchestra New England. He came down the center aisle singing When A Man Loves A Woman. We had balcony seats and we could look over the balcony to see him enter the venue!!! Wow. That was the beginning of an amazing 16 year journey!!!

MB asked me how long it's been last month, he was curious I guess!!LOL

I am curious, when did you guys see MB perform live for the first time?

Thanks for letting me share.

Robin :)

Hi Silvy, that was a cool story, thanks for sharing! For a minute there, I thought you meant that you saw him in person at the "Pavarotti and friends" event! I'm very happy for you that you were able to see him at the stage and wish you a great time at your next concert! Take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
Hi Sylvie, we have almost the same name!

1990...Michael with Kenny G at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center...waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the balcony lol. I think that was his second time at that venue...his first was opening for Ozzie Ozbourne several years before. Missed that one.... ;-)

Robin it seemed to me when he was on the cover of CT magazine, the author of the article mentioned the Woolsey Hall performance so I went and looked it up.

"The mood of the audience is swoony yet relatively sedate. Although Bolton causes a miniwave of hysteria simply by calling out to his fans in the balcony (was that you lol?), no one here seems close to breaking the record of 14 (bleep) allegedly set by a woman during a previous concert (and reported in Esquire). Bolton's allure for some is hard to fathom...granted he's easy on the eye. His 6-foot frame (slight exaggeration...) is husky and muscular (really????). It radiates masculinity, as does the conservative black suit he's wearing. The diamond stud he wears in his left ear...which glitters hugely every time the spotlight hits him...radiates power. And as everyone knows, the sob in his testosterone driven voice radiates vulnerability."

For some reason I always remembered that line about the earring lol.
Gosh, I'm not sure who opened for Michael when I saw him in 1990...I think it was Oleatha Adams. In either 1991 or 1993, Celine Dion opened for him! What a fantastic show that was! She could barely speak English at that time.
Hey Deb and Anna, I saw Celine in 1994 open for Michael. She was fantastic then. Thanks so much for sharing your stories!!!

Robin

Anna, Oleta Adams did open for him at SPAC in 1991 when he went on his first solo tour (and I was once again at the rear of the balcony lol). She had that beautiful song that hit big largely on the strength of the Gulf War...Get Here. Kenny didn't open for him...it was a joint tour.

Robin...I was at the 1994 show...do you remember him trying to sneak out and give Celine flowers? She was facing away from him talking to her band about her last number I think and when she turned around, he scared her half to death. If I remember right, he was on his knees LOL. I will NEVER understand why they didn't do a number together...such a waste of opportunity!
Deb, OMG I totally forgot about that till I read this post. They should have sung a song together-what a duet that would have been!!!! So true!
Robin
Hi Deborah, I remember that story! Céline was on Regis & Kathie Lee at the time and she told it: she turned around to face the audience because the band wasn't starting. Then she saw that they were all facing the opposite way and she looked... Michael was standing there, with a jacket and no shirt on, holding a bunch of flowers! lol Incidentally, don't know when this was, but they apparently did a duet once on stage. Enjoy!

You know Sylvie, I definitely do NOT remember him not having a shirt on but she would know better than I lol.
A friend of mine sent me that clip long before You Tube ever came to be...it was like getting a huge present...we passed it around and I kept hoping there would be more of it somewhere but if there is, it hasn't turned up. At some point the entire AUDIO of that performance was available for download and I still have that in my files. Apparently this was your Juno awards. Michael was nominated for best foreign artist and lost out to Garth Brooks that year.

I think he toured more than once with Celine...if I'm not mistaken she did some dates with him during his first solo tour...I believe they were FL dates. But in 94' she was hitting her stride and I think everyone who purchased a ticket that year was hoping the two of them would sing together during the tour. To my knowledge they never did.
OMG Deborah, would you feel comfortable sharing that file with us? If you could find it that is... :) Well, lucky you girl... I don't suppose you'd remember where it was available to download? Maybe we should check out the Juno Awards site... BTW, I do have the clip too, I just wanted to share with people who might not have known. Thanks again for sharing. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
Deborah I had to laugh would have loved to have seen that.
I really wish they would sing a ballard together a dream of mine.
Thanks so much for that
