2012 TOUR REVIEW THREAD-PLEASE SHARE YOUR 2012 MB CONCERT ADVENTURES WITH US HERE!!!!

HELLO EVERYONE, Since the 2011 Tour Review Thread is not playing nice and throwing us all back to the beginning lately, Gail asked if I would go ahead and start the 2012 thread. So here it is.. We can all share our excitement for Michael's upcoming touring and events in 2012 and chat and have fun here till the shows start in 2012.

Everyone is welcome to post and share their stories and pictures, videos from concerts and trips to see Michael do what he does best-SING!!!   Michael will be touring in 2012 starting so far with some shows the end of January.  There could be other events sooner too so if anyone attends a great Bolton event/concert, feel free to share your experience here.  I hope to have a review after the Chester, PA show on January 28th along with some other fans that have gotten tickets for that show and  the Atlantic City, NJ show on January 27th as well!  After that there are shows in Australia so far listed for 2012.  Following those shows we have the Concert for MBC and Traveler's Golf Event in June, 2012 and later on the MBC Gala in Sept.. We already have some exciting events to look forward to next year and I know there will be much more to come.

I am looking forward to another fun year of posts and sharing by the best Michael Bolton fans in the world on this forum.. I will post events to keep the thread moving along as the concerts come up as before.

Welcome everyone!!!!!

Welcome Maureen! Sounds like you had great seats and how cool is that your mom now is a fan!! Only takes one concert that's for sure...So glad you had a great night, I know it's a bummer when you don't have a rockin crowd to go to the stage..I've been at those at times over the years too. We just chair dance and rock out best we can!!LOL

Feel free to post often and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!!! We are a friendly bunch.

Jen&Maureen, I'm loving your reviews & comments. Keep them coming. Where there's life, girls, there's hope. Don't give up. You'll get chances. Boltonnut from L. A. CA who loves life & Michael Bolton :)

Ah! ha! Maureen, converted your mom. Go mom. Loved your story girl&heck, 4th row ain't bad, girlfriend. I know only too well going to shows, alone, & not knowing a soul. :) Boltonnut from L. A. CA who loves life & Michael Bolton :)

Shucks Maureen & Jen, it took me 9 years before I ever got up to any stage&I had been to many shows. Boltonnut from L. A. CA who loves life & Michael Bolton :) You may wanna differentiate between the 2 Robins--I'm from L. A. CA & Robin's from MD, ok? Thanks girl(s).

Robin, you surprise the heck out of me ... You went to some shows by yourself ... aaalone ? You're amazing :)) And I've been whining for some days now 'cause I can't find anybody to come with me to St Pete :)) Where are you ?Let's get together and fly to Fl :)) Have a good night & big hugs - Nic

I wish I could fly to FL, Nic & everyone. I really do. We all wine girl. Don't worry. Well, my father told me, "Girl, if you want it done, you have to do it yourself." So right is my dad that's for sure. If I wait for someone, it ain't happening. Yes, I've been to shows with folks. thanks to Gail, I met BB'S (Bolton Buddies) for the 1st time @ a soft ball game in 1997&wala, the rest is history. As I've explained before, Nic&those who don't know, I have a hobby where I have tape pals (like pen pals) but by tape across the country so, when I was a workin' girl, I'd schedule to meet my correspondences across the country & see Michael in concert. Pereseverence & assertive is the claim to gain. I have more time behind me so, I just do the best that I can. Thanks for your compliments, girl. Sorry for my novel. :) Boltonnut from L. A. CA who loves life & Michael Bolton :) I'm one of the older fan--yes&I still scream, jump up&down & the whole works. @ the last concert 8/3/12, I tried going up to the stage&it wasn't condusive. I ventured going up alone&a guy asked me where I was going&I told him I've been on this rodeo 20 years now. :))))))))))))

Q&A: Michael Bolton on musical influences, his long career and that 'SNL' skit

By DAVE OSBORN

Friday, November 30, 2012

Michael Bolton, who will perform Saturday in Naples, recently answered questions from the Daily News about his career.

Naples Daily News: You began your career as a hard-rock singer and eventually found your niche with soulful ballads and softer “pop” songs in the 1980s. What made you make the switch?

Michael Bolton: Actually, to set the record straight, I started doing R&B with two albums for RCA and it wasn’t until the mid-70s when I met the business manager of Led Zeppelin and Bad Company and he suggested putting an American rock group together. I loved those bands and loved rock so I said, “Sure, I can do that.”

I already had a record deal at 16 with Epic and recorded four albums that didn’t succeed, so I gave rock a try with two albums as the lead singer in a group we named Blackjack, and the company Polydor was betting heavily on us. (Pun intended, but true story.) After those albums came and went, I started writing songs for other artists to put food on the table for my family. I found out I had a gift for writing ballads and R&B songs and started getting my songs covered by artists like the Pointer Sisters, Joe Cocker, Bill Medley, Kenny Rogers, all genres from country to pop.

Then, in ’83, Laura Branigan recorded and released a beautiful version of a song I wrote called “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” and she had a smash hit with it. My newest record company, Columbia Records, started hearing these songs I was writing for other artists on the radio.

NDN: Who were some of your musical influences growing up?

Bolton: My brother played me Stevie Wonder before I was a teenager and it rocked my world. I was already inspired by Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye. I was a huge fan of the Beatles and the Stones, but more influenced as a singer by soul singers. It could be both people you knew in your hometown and stars when you were growing up.

NDN: The Jack Sparrow song with the “Saturday Night Live” actors has been a YouTube hit, of course. Whose decision was that and what’s your thoughts on it? It seems like you’re having fun kind of mocking yourself, which makes it more appealing and funny.

Bolton: The Jack Sparrow video was one of the most gratifying, special projects I’ve ever done. I already loved the Lonely Island Boys’ work and they came and pitched the idea to me. But the early forms had some really crass (as in nasty) lyrics. I told them I’d love to do it if they could just clean it up a bit. And they did.

In their "SNL" skits, you have to be OK mocking yourself and mocking everything and everyone else (including some of my favorite iconic characters in film) in order for the concept to payoff. They were so easy to work with, it made two 17-hour days filming a pleasure.

John Mayer was at the "SNL" premiere of the video and said, “Tomorrow, Michael, you’re going to see something amazing happen. An audience not even familiar with your body of musical work are going be new fans.” He was right! We are at about 95 million views!

NDN: What did you enjoy most about your fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s? And how tough was it to become so popular so fast?

Bolton: I didn’t feel like I became famous fast because I’d signed with Epic when I was 16 and didn’t have a hit till ’87 when I was 34. I’m an 18year “overnight” success story. And 25 years after that first hit, I’m writing and recording a CD every 18 months and touring the world from Australia to Southeast Asia, China to Europe, Russia to South Africa, South America and of course North America. I am fully conscious of how fortunate I am for this and working as hard to show it.

NDN: You have sung with many great singers. Who have been some of your favorites and why.

Bolton: Ray Charles, my first strongest influence; BB King, Plácido Domingo, Jose Carreras and the greatest tenor ever, Luciano Pavarotti. I went into serious training mode after meeting and working with Pavarotti. Ray was smiling ear to ear as I said to him, “The student finally meets the master.” I would perform a few more times with Ray and Luciano. Those experiences changed my entire perception of singing and brought me deeper into the respect and care of the voice.“
