Let me share my thoughts about the Lancaster Festival performance from the perspective of a first time MB concert-goer.   First off, the show was absolutely fantastic and everything I've heard about a live MBSings performance was true.    We were lucky enough to have table seating in row H, about 8 tables back from the stage.   This was right in the transition zone: the tables in front of us were legacy people who come to the festival every year regardless of who is headlining, while everyone behind us seemed to be there to see Michael.  It made for a really interesting dynamic.   People closest to the stage in the "corporate seats" started off being politely entertained - by the end of the show, they were as enthusiastic as the rest of the fans who were singing along with every song.

Weather was really "iffy" but we totally lucked out in the end.  It rained off and on most of the day, so when we arrived at the venue, we had to dry off the table and chairs.  We had just finished decorating the table with our Caribbean theme (with rum punch in honor of Captain Jack, of course) and laid our the fruit, wine & cheese party when the deluge started.  We had about 1/2 inch of rain in about 30 minutes.  Our group of six sat under our umbrellas, toasting the sun gods, reminding ourselves that the tickets really did say Rain or Shine.   The rain did finally stop before the show began, and we had a brilliant moonrise during the concert.

There was an announcement before the show that MB autobiography and Hitsville CD were available at the merchandise tent.   They did not indicate at that time that there were be a signing event after the concert.   I heard on the radio on Sunday that there were about 7500 in attendance, despite the rain.

The Lancaster Festival Orchestra opened the program with several selections, then went to intermission.   The main event began with an instrumental only quick stanza of Go The Distance, then quickly transitioned into Soul Provider as MB appeared.   The sound was incredible.   Michael was born to sing in front of a symphony, and the extra instrumentation added richness and depth to the music.  It really was an awesome performance.   I was too busy singing along and enjoying the concert to write down the set list, but I know he sang Sweet Home Chicago, To Love Somebody, Hope It's Too Late, Said I Loved You But I Lied, Nessun Dorma, When A Man Loves A Woman, How Can We Be Lovers, Time Love & Tenderness, and Georgia.    Kelly was a big hit with the guys when she appeared on stage in her white dress.  Duets included Ain't No Mountain, The Prayer, and How Am I Supposed To Live Without You, and Kelly did a solo version of songs written by MB but sung by others (Steisand, Cher and KISS).  The crowd asked for Jack Sparrow, but MB said that he hadn't yet convinced Lonely Island to tour with him and he hadn't yet figured out how to put that song in the set list.  Our group was disappointed that the show did not include Hallelujah (which would have been awesome with the symphony) or Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay; but, realistically, there are so many wonderful songs that some good ones are going to be excluded.

It was hard to get pictures or video because it was so dark in the outdoor amphitheatre and the crowd was really pretty far back from the stage.   Security had to let us cross in front of the stage to get to the restrooms, and that walk to the faciliities was actually closer than any seats.     MBSings finished his portion of the concert to a standing ovation, then the symphony continued to play while accompanying the fireworks.  At the end of the show, the disembodied voice announced that MB would be signing merchandise so many people got in line for autographs.   (I had to skip this opportunity.   I had surgery on Friday, so was unable to stand in line on Saturday. Will have to wait for another chance at a future concert.)  As we walked out at the end of the night, we were laughing at the comments from the Legacy "Corporate" Crowd who sat in front of us.  A sampling:  "I can't tell you a single thing that he sang, but that was an incredible performance"; "this might be the best concert we've seen in all of the years we've been coming"; and "who knew he could sing?"

Yes, as someone predicted last week, we are now hooked on MB concerts.   Our party of six included three people who could actually name an MB song or album, and three others who came along for the wine & cheese party under the stars (and to keep us out of trouble).  By the end of the night, even the husbands were looking up tour dates on the website to see when we could go to an indoor concert.

sounded like they needed hearing aids lol i live behind the university so i was able to hear michael real well from home and the fireworks rattled my windows and my bed lol

Thanks girls for all videos&articles. :)

Thank you for your great review, Ellen. So sorry you had to miss out on the book and cd signing though. I read MBs review about the Lancaster event and obviously it was a big hit for everyone. Hope you get to an indoor concert very soon and now I want to go to an outdoor one after reading your review. Thanks again Ellen!!

Kathy T. :)

Ellen Terese, thanks for your awesome review. I'm sorry you couldn't stay for the signings but most certainly can understand why. Love symphony orchestras as I saw them in 2001@ 2 concerts. I'm glad you enjoyed your first concert so immensely. So, a lot of the corporate hasn't heard him. Hmm. Glad they were enthused. Hmm.&they got good seats. Wow! Season ticketers do get priority seats. Wow! I'm glad for you&thanks once again for your review. :)

Kelly, we'll be waiting anxiously for your review. Understand getting thoughts together. Hope you were able to go to the signing.

Hi Ellen Therese and thanks so much for a wonderful review and so glad everything worked out so well for you for your first MB concert.....just terrific !!! :)   Have to say that I love the way you apparently dressed your table for that sounds absolutely great and do you know what the one was like that won the competition for "best dressed" ??

Really glad you had a great time and that that weather eventually cooperated.....just shows the power that Michael really has; yeah, he can control the weather too !!!! LOL

Ellen,  Thanks so much for coming in and posting your review.  Such a shame you all got drenched before the show, thankfully tho it stopped before MB came on stage.. His voice is so much better live than any CD or TV program of him singing!! Nothing like it!!!!!! I had a feeling you would be hooked after this show!!LOL Glad to hear a few of your other party members are fans now too!!! MB is addicting that way, you just cannot help it..

Thanks again for sharing your fun night with all of us here!!

Hi Ellen, wow, for a first time reviewer, you did this like a pro! :D Okay first, may I ask what took you so long to attend a Michael concert? Just wondering. You have a great memory for the setlist too: judging from past setlists, you may have missed only “Steel bars”, but that’s about it! I’m sorry you couldn’t stand in line to get an autograph, but sounds like you had one heck of a first concert experience! Thanks a lot for adding the corporate comments: nice touch! It’s always nice to be able to take someone to a concert and they’re actually looking forward to it. Well Ellen, I’ll wish you a prompt recovery from your surgery and thanks ever so much for your lovely review, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D

Ellen did a wonderful review !  And, yes, he did sing Steel Bars...that song is currently in my head.  I ran into many people who had never seen MB before.  In the shuttle van, the driver's wife had a trivia contest, and I was the only person who knew any answers.  Many people were there as they lived in/near Lancaster and were there for the festival.  Not me !  I was there for Michael .....Unfortunately I have only been to 5 concerts over the past 20 yrs, in large part due to two former boyfriends who felt concerts, especially Michael's, were a waste of money.  (no more control freaks for me)

I am now foot loose and fancy free and can go where I wish.  :-)  ♪♪

As one of the other girls said, Michael is addicting !  Pray for his safe travels as he jets around the world to entertain and addict more of us.

Hi Pamela, thanks for the confirmation on "Steel bars" and thanks for throwing your own 2 cents too! Good for you getting rid of control freaks and catch yourself up on concert-going as muchas you can! :D Thanks again for sharing, take care and God bless. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada

& Pamela, it's not the amount of time one goes, it's the times one goes. I love meeting people along the way & any of the shows. Love being foot loose&fancy free. that's me too, girl.
