A wee introduction to what below song means, to Scots, taken from a book by Andrew O`Hagan : "The last three minutes of the old year and the first two minutes of the new one provide a caesura of pure sentiment in the average Scots household: a perfectly encapsulated delirium of happy sadness and lost time. When I think back over nearly forty of those five-minute intervals, I see a procession of departed relatives and rosy-cheeked First Foots - coal in hand, whisky bottle under the arm, tears forming in the corners of eyes - waiting at the front door to grasp a hand and take a cup of kindness. ................... a song with a precise gift for mellowing our regrets and putting out a hand to all that is human and passing."
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
For auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We`ll tak a cup o` kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
And surely ye`ll be your pint stowp!
And surely I`ll be mine!
And we`ll tak a cup o` kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
For auld, & c.
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou`d the gowans fine;
But we`ve wander`d mony a weary fitt,
Sin auld lang syne.
For auld, & c.
We twa hae paidl`d in the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar`d,
Sin auld lang syne.
For auld, & c.
And there`s a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gie`s a hand o` thine!
And we`ll tak a right gude-willie-waught,
For auld lang syne.
For auld, & c.
I wish, each and every one of you, health, happiness and peace in the New Year of 2011 and may, whatever God you hold dear, help you achieve it!

From the desk of the quiet one...
I do hope that everyone has a safe and joyous new year. I will be spending mine in San Francisco either going to the Exploritorium or take in a movie. I just hope the sun can stay out for me to catch my first New Year's Eve sunset over the beach. I'm hoping. :)
Take care.

Hi Audrey, wow, that sounds like a lovely New Year’s day! Hope you do get to see the sunset… It’s nice to read your post, quiet one. I’ll let you in on a little secret: in person, I’m more of an introvert myself, but there’s something very freeing I find on the internet, being with people who enjoy talking with you and accept you unconditionally, you know what I mean? :D Take care sweetie and have a wonderful 2011. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada, the intermittent extrovert :D
Hi, Sylvia
The same to you and why no to people all over the world.
Happy New Year !!
Take care
Mariu
