Hi everyone, I'm feeling whimsical today and thought I'd start a new blog all about my music discoveries, opinions, news etc. My news are based on what I hear on the radio and/or find by accident on either Amazon or YouTube so don't set your clock by my findings! lol I just want to talk about music, because music is like oxygen to me and I've been, ever since I was a little girl, a music "pusher". :D If you're a music lover, hope you enjoy reading or feel Free to bring in your own discoveries, especially if you’re passionate about them. Hope you enjoy my choices. Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, well as the excitement for our own Michael's movie-related album builds, I have another new/old movie song for you. I caught it on the YouTube front page and it's Ariana Grande with John Legend singing the new version of  "Beauty and the Beast" from the movie of the same name, but audio only:

2 nice voices, a nice version, though I would have thought they'd try and bring it a 2017 feel, but it's Disney, so who am I to argue? :D Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, my post today will have more of an editorial feel. I was sad to hear in the news yesterday that the music chain HMV will have to close its doors  because of bankruptcy. That leaves very few options for music fans who enjoy going to a physical store and it’s just sad. However, as I was reading that article, I came across a surprising glimmer of hope that all is not lost. According to this article from last December :

http://globalnews.ca/news/3103557/cassettes-make-unexpected-comebac...

...audio cassettes are making a comeback! I had heard last year, after the release of the movie “Guardians of the galaxy”, that they  were issueing the “Awesome mix vol 1: tape featured in the movie, which I assumed was just a novelty, but there is a renewed interest, which truly is refreshing! I never stopped taping myself, but this should be fun to follow, whether it’ll be just another fad or grow. Speaking of following, I will follow that with yet another little jewel from my good old CKRK listening of the week. This is from a Canadian group called Triumph, possibly my favorite song from them, fitting very well with today's post and the theme of this blog, “Magic power”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXZLsMxFXf4

Just for the fun of it, here are the lyrics:

TRIUMPH "Magic Power"

Something's at the edge of your mind

You don't know what it is

Something you were hoping to find

But you're not sure what it is

 Then you hear the music

And it all comes crystal clear

 The music does the talking

Says the things you want to hear

I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free

Got the magic power of the music in me

 I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free

Got the magic power of the music in me

She climbs into bed

 She pulls the covers overhead

And she turns her little radio on

 She's had a rotten day

So she hopes the DJ's

Gonna play her favorite song

Makes her feel much better

Brings her closer to her dreams

 A little magic power

Makes it better that it seems

She's young now, she's wild now, she wants to be free

She gets the magic power of the music from me

She's young now, she's wild now, she wants to be free

She gets the magic power of the music from me

You're thinking it over

But you just can't sort it out

Do you want someone to tell you

What they think it's all about

Are you the one and only

Who's sad and lonely

 You're reaching for the top

Well, the music keeps you going

And it's never gonna stop

 It's never gonna stop

It's never gonna, never gonna, never gonna, never gonna stop

The world is full of compromise

 And infinite red tape

But the music's got the magic

It's your one chance for escape

Turn me on, turn me up

 It's your turn to dream

 A little magic power

Makes it better than it seems

I'm young now, I'm wild now, I want to be free

Got the magic power of the music in me

I'm young now, I'm wild and I'm free

Got the magic power of the music

I got the music in me

I got the power

 I got the magic

 She's got the power

 She's got the magic

 She's got the power

 She's got the magic

 She's got the power

 She's got the magic

*****

I know it’s simplistic, but it says what it needs to say. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, today I’d like to share a song that’s very dear to my heart and I’ve been meaning to share it for a good while, but it wasn’t on YouTube yet. It’s a devastatingly beautiful duet about long lost love that’s found again. This is Olivia Newton-John & Richard Marx with “Never far away”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AiDhcCGTOc

It’s off her duets CD called “2”, filled with mostly Australian singing partners like Keith Urban, Tina Arena and Darren Hayes, but this one with Richard takes the cake in my opinion. She also sings a bossa nova version of “Physical” which I’ve shared before. I haven’t read the liner notes, so don’t know if it was a songwriting collaboration, but everything about this song is absolutely gorgeous, so I can’t see a reason you wouldn’t enjoy it. :D Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, I came across this song on YouTube yesterday and it really stopped me in my tracks.  I’m very familiar with the Beatles catalog, but not with the individual members’ catalogs. This is off his 1974 album “Walls and bridges”, John Lennon “Nobody loves you when you’re down and out” acoustic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIYRbbHMesg

It was apparently written during what’s known as John’s “lost weekend” when he separated from his wife Yoko at the time. There have been a few versions of this song according to Wikipedia, but either way you listen, it’s pretty powerful stuff, depicting a very low  point in John’s life with excellent lyrics: the title says it all. Sorry this one is a bit of a downer, but still poignant songwriting and I hope you enjoy it for what it is. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, Michael just posted this on his FB page and on his YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zojAYQx4734&feature=youtu.be&a

It's a career-spanning collage of bits of video and it was fun to listen to, so I thought I'd post it here too. He actually tweeted that they're working on more from the new album, so stay tuned! Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi Thresa, I’m not looking forward to any concerts either, but the world is full of music sweetie, so open up your heart and let the sunshine in! lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRScRDm9Z1s

lol Sorry, I couldn’t resist... ;D I did have a song in my head today and I’ll share it with you. It’s a beautiful song by Olivia Newton-John, off her 1988 album “The rumor” and it’s called “Walk through fire”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5XuJB7UEFo

Wow, it’s hard to believe this song is almost 30 years old... The reason there aren’t that many people on my blog might be because many people have blogs, you need to search for it and it’s more easily accessible on my profile page. Now, I used to post on a thread called “What song are you listening to right now”,

http://www.michaelbolton.com/forum/topics/what-song-are-you-listening

...but I stopped, because I felt nobody was much interested, which is why I started this blog. :D Well anyway, I do hope you enjoy the song Thresa, take good care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi Thresa, no, sorry sweetie, no song of the day here, but since my blog is 25 pages long, feel free to browse every day! :D  As I’ve stated in my initial post above, music is like oxygen to me andI couldn’t imagine a day without it. I don’t want to be regimented into posting and I go, as the former CBC tagline used to be: “wherever music takes me”. :D I’m really glad I have this blog to channel my passion and hopefully, it’ll bring at least some people joy. Thanks very much for your comment Thresa, take care. Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie <3
