Hi everyone, I'm feeling whimsical today and thought I'd start a new blog all about my music discoveries, opinions, news etc. My news are based on what I hear on the radio and/or find by accident on either Amazon or YouTube so don't set your clock by my findings! lol I just want to talk about music, because music is like oxygen to me and I've been, ever since I was a little girl, a music "pusher". :D If you're a music lover, hope you enjoy reading or feel Free to bring in your own discoveries, especially if you’re passionate about them. Hope you enjoy my choices. Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, a very special post today. This is the abridged, but none the less complete performance of the "Secondaire en spectacle" show my son was twice a winner in last month:

He and his friend are the last act, at about 55-60 minutes in, followed by the awards. I hope you enjoy. :D Thanks for reading and listening/watching, sincerely, proud mom Sylvie <3
Bonjour everyone, a quick entry today. I just recieved a really nice video of the Jacques Brel song “Le plat pays”, that was an homage to the victims in Bruxelles on March 22. I can’t make out the name of the performer other than Gaéŧan somebody. I believe it’s sung part Flemish part French, but very nice, hope you enjoy. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3

Hi everyone, today’s entry is courtesy of my old radio compilation tapes. Seems I’m up to 1986 and I found me a beauty! It’s one of those forgotten band spinoff deals: Brian Setzer, with his first solo single after leaving the Stray Cats. The song is called “The knife feels like justice” and comes from the album of the same name:

I remember the video vaguely and Brian was growing his hair out at that point. I was searching for the right words to describe the genre of the song and was going to go with old school blues rock, but Wiki offered me “roots rock” which I find nicely fitting. Luckily, I found that this album hasn’t disappeared from existence, has been re-released a few times and I thank God for the deep well that’s my local library! I hope you enjoy this comfy blast from the past. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3
Hi Thresa, well first, thanks for posting here and for your good words. Michael was sick in the beginning of last month and had to cancel his second show in Burmingham, which was quickly rescheduled. He had been horribly sick in 2014 and had to reschedule a couple of concerts, including one in my area. Our dear Michael is an admitted workaholic and I guess at times, it catches up with him. I hope that answers your question. Take good care Thresa. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie :D
Hi everyone, today’s entry is courtesy of my great First Nation Station again. This is a really very nice song I’ve heard for the first time yesterday, it’s Tim McGraw’s “Hunble and kind”:

I checked for his album “Damn country music” at my library and it seems to have been released last year. I’m personally not a big country enthusiast, but this is a very nice earthy song, no artifice and none of what keeps me away from country music, so I think I’ll check out his album. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3
Hi everyone, today I’m simply bringing a couple of cute little soft rock songs I got from my neighbor’s pile of records he gave us and no, I’m not done checking them. :D All right first, a song with a dumb title and equally dumb lyrics. I first heard of this song in the 70’s, never paying attention to the lyrics, though the title was enough to point me in the other direction. lol Here it is, America with “Muskrat love”:

It’s still a dumb song, but I really enjoy America’s arrangement and harmonies on it, compared to the Captain & Tennille version. My second choice is something much more boy-meets-girl and an old long lost favorite, the Spinners with Dionne warwick’s “Then came you”:

A gentle little entry for a relaxed Tuesday morning. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3
Hi everyone, it’s taken me a couple of days, but I’m now taking the time to underline the passing of the musical icon that was Prince Rogers Nelson. There is no denying his impact on contemporary music or icon status. I can’t say that I followed his career much beyond the 80’s, but I always admired the fact that he was all about the art. I don’t know many radio stations that were playing his music beyond the 80’s/90’s here either and frankly never sought it out, but thanks to my wonderful ressource of my local library, I’m willing to remedy that. My Prince connection is of course, attached to the album “Purple rain”. I remember my husband, (boyfriend at the time) and I were going on a road trip and we’d just found out I was pregnant with my first child. It was early summer, the windows were down and “Let’s go crazy” came on the radio and it just felt like the beginning of a great adventure that was perfectly captured in that moment. Here it is, “Let’s go crazy”:

Man, I love that song! Incidentally, the above link is Prince’s Superbowl 2007 performance. Well as long as I’m doing a Prince entry, I’m going to repost my favorite song of his, “The most beautiful girl in the world”:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmqSi7lulMM
I love this song, because it shows a sweet and tender side of Prince that has kind of a comforting familiarity, as opposed to his usual flamboyant style. The last one song that’s just mandatory to post, is the song that’s been echoing in my head for 48 hours now, “Purple rain, from the 1985 “American Music Awards”:

I pulled out my 2 disc version of the film and will be watching it tomorrow. Out of curiosity, I checked out reports of the world landmarks turning purple in honor of Prince and did find a page underlining the truth about it, photoshopped pictures, other landmarks being lit in honor of the Queen’s birthday, so I will let it go and let Prince rest in peace and thank him for the music and his devotion to art. Thanks for reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3
Hi everyone, well today my friends, I’m sharing something unexpected and totally different, not to mention over-indulgent. :D Today, I want to acknowledge and underline that my youngest son has won with his friend first prize at the regionals of “Secondaire en spectacle”, which is a high-school talent show. Not only have they won the West Island of Montreal division, but they’re off to Amos for the Pan Quebecois finals! Here is the trailer for the event:

Incidentally, they won for their performance in the full creation competition: Julie wrote and sang the lyrics and my son Phil played acoustic guitar and wrote the music of a song called “Chagrin”, as well as singing backup. I can not wait to be able to share their performance here and I’m just busting with pride, as you can imagine! :D Thanks for indulging me, reading and listening, sincerely, Sylvie <3
