Miscellany but exceptionally relevant information about, or from Michael on, MB.

Thought I would start this thread for there does appear, at times, to be different relevant articles, tweets, retweets, pictures etc relating to Michael but not really fitting into an already recognized thread nor, each of them individually, being able to be grouped together where a relevant thread could be started and so decided on this "Miscellany" thread.

I hope you agree with its relevance and that you enjoy everything that is put in as well as hoping that many will find interesting tidbits about Michael that can be included and help to make this, whilst a serious sharing of information, a FUN page to be able to visit too and, as is my intention, somewhere that everything which does not have a particular "home" can be placed, so that is all grouped together and can be easily found and located if someone wants to look at.

Here now, so that we can all focus on the main reason for this thread, is a beautiful picture of the "Theme" of the thread.......wonder if MB has ever been called that before ???? LOL.

Believe this one definitely belongs in here for I would say sharing with us that coconut sorbet is his favourite dessert is both miscellaneous and more than extremely relevant to the "THEME" of this website and in particular, to this thread  !! LOL.

Hope everyone enjoys content and feels free to add their very own miscellany !!! :)

Thanks a lot Joy for all those extra links about programme and just to say we haven't been posting anything on this thread about for a little while as we have been taking it all to the "old" Whose Appearing in Two and a Half Men thread and I do see you went over there but if you attempted to post this information, unfortunately, it hasn't come out.

Thanks again Joy for the links !! :)

MICHAEL BOLTON FINDS NEW FANS IN STARRING IN COMMERCIALS AS MICHAEL BOLTON

ABC/Matt Brown
ABC/Matt Brown

(NEW YORK) — Michael Bolton is back in the studio, not to record another passionate break-up song, but to lay down tracks for a new line of greeting cards.

The ‘90s R&B icon who made us swoon with tear-jerking ballads like “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” has launched a second career as a celebrity pitchman, selling all kinds of things from e-cards to Starbursts and Hondas.

The mullet is gone, but the pipes are as solid as ever. In all of his spots, Bolton plays a version of himself. “So far they all want me to be Michael Bolton,” the Grammy-winning artist said, laughing.

Bolton, who has sold nearly 55 million albums, clearly doesn’t need the money. He is just the latest celebrity to lend their persona to commercials.

Recently, Matthew McConaughey starred in two Lincoln car commercials and Will Ferrell became Ron Burgundy for a few Dodge Durango spots. William Shatner has also starred in commercials where he too plays an over-the-top version of himself. Not only is Shatner in on the joke, he’s cashing in. Those Priceline ads have led to new roles, including his Emmy-winning star turn on The Practice.

For Bolton, the ads have brought his career full circle. Back when he was a starving singer-songwriter, struggling to pay the bills, Bolton wrote and sang product jingles.

“’Be all you can be, get an edge on life in the Army,’” Bolton said. “That was me plus 20 great singers.” Bolton likes to joke that he has done a jingle for every drink in the picnic cooler, including spots for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, 7Up, Cherry 7Up and Dr. Pepper.

“Dr. Pepper was huge,” Bolton said, bursting into song: “’Dr. Pepper, give me the news, I got a bad case of loving you.’” Somewhere along the way, his music career took over, and Bolton remembers the moment he realized it.

“I was driving to New York, and one of my commercials comes on,” he said. “Then the commercial is off and my single comes on and now I’m in my heart.”

“I’m thinking, “This is what I’ve worked my whole life for. It’s happening,’” Bolton continued. “And just as it finishes another of my jingles comes on after it. They were bookends to my single.

He said when he heard a second jingle, he called his manager from the car.

“‘We have to stop doing the jingles.’ I told him,” Bolton said. “I don’t want people at radio trying to guess whether I’m a real singer or whether I’m a jingle guy.”

But what brought Bolton back to the commercial airwaves was a music video parody called “Jack Sparrow” that first aired on Saturday Night Live in 2011. In the skit, Bolton is working on a song with Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island, and while the guys sing about partying in the club, Bolton keeps singing about a Disney Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy. (The Walt Disney Company, which owns the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, is also the parent company of ABC News.)

Bolton said Samberg didn’t have to twist his arm to participate. He jumped at the chance.

“We met at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and they gave us this boardroom,” he said. “We sat across from each other and I said, “Okay first of all my daughters are flipping out that I’m meeting with you guys right now.” And Andy says to me, “My mother is going insane that I’m sitting here with you!”

Through ads, Bolton can re-connect with fans who once weathered a break-up with a Michael Bolton tune, and reach their kids too.

“You are now stepping in front of an audience that record companies can’t even hope to get in front of,” he said. “There’s no comparison… Because you don’t have MTV and VH1 doing that anymore. Top 40’s not looking at us… We can’t look at them to get a new record out. It’s not realistic. It could happen, but it’s not realistic.”

Now the quirky ads have given Bolton a new way to remind his fans he’s still going strong.

Hi Joy,

thanks so much for sharing. It's really interesting.

Best regards from Berlin

Katrin

Thanks Joy...YES...that is what the nightline interview was about!! It was a great interview with Michael explaining how huge the audience is that can be reached by one commercial. He talked about coming full circle with jingles. And now singing greeting cards!! lol Michael was compared to William Shatner in that both he and Michael are in on the joke with their commercials :) It was GREAT to see old vid clips of Michael's music videos :))))) PLEASE Michael make a new music video :))  So that is what the "piano" pics are about...Michael recording for the greeting cards. He said he was now working on the Birthday series...lol Don't know what holidays he will sing about but one can guess after the Honda commercials :) Start saving ladies and off to the card stores we all shall go!! LOL I didn't tape it because my dang dvr machine is full! I know it will appear here though soon enough! It was about a 15 minute interview.

The article that Joy just posted is the entire interview from Nightline :)

Thanks Kathy and didn't realize Joy had put that in here but it is the same article that Gloria has posted in the thread we have for TV Shows that Michael is in where Gail had posted the first link about the interview yesterday but I meant, by tweet, because we have link to interview but it is not available outside of USA, I was wondering more about EXACT words that Michael had said.  As you say, hopefully, it will become available and just hope to God that his "greeting cards" are available for purchase OUTSIDE of the States  I had gone into that thread and found Gloria's and from there had gone to Twitter and then FB and have only arrived back on here via my e-mail notifications....I'm like the milkman in the morning and do my rounds systematically...LOL

Thanks very much for posting article on here Joy for these sort of things can't be talked about enough....get the ball rolling for publicity !!! :)

Hi ladies, I’ve just re-read Joy’s article and it does say that he’s selling E-cards. I’m under the impression that Michael will sing in the ads, but wondering if he’ll be singing in E-cards or those physical musical cards as well: the article doesn’t make it clear. I hope we get precision on that soon. Thanks ladies for your contributions and imput. Take care and hugs to all, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D

How cool is this!!! Go Michael. Yup we will be buying cards galore!!!

Robin in MD :)

Sylvia I am pretty sure all that Michael said is in that printed article. Robin Md. what do you think? I don't there is much or anything else Michael had said. I believe that article posted is the official transcript from the interview?
