I was having trouble with the MB Dates Added thread going to the last page so I'm thinking it is at it's limit so starting this new thread.

5/14/13 Updated*

You are going to find a number of things on the web and on band member's websites before I announce, or they end up in the Tour section here, or MB's official Facebook and I want to explain why.  Michael's management and tour people start setting things up and working with promoters and venues most times a long time before we hear about them. There are logistics that have to be worked out as well as schedules, deposits, agreements, etc that are all signed and ok'd before Michael's people consider them confirmed.  The band member's may put them on their websites also before we do because they are given the dates while they are being worked on, so they will hold those dates in their busy schedules as well. A lot of the band do other gigs when they aren't with Michael so they are asking them to hold those dates.  Promoters and venues sometimes post before all is confirmed on Michael's end as well because they want to get the word out and tickets sold but sometimes that works against them and most of us have seen that happen when a concert doesn't work out and tickets have to be refunded or taken down with no explanation. Most of the times the ones you find on websites of the venues or band member's sites do work out but because there is the chance they might not until all i's are dotted we don't post on the main page until it is!!

Question for Gail, I think - how is a tour put together? I mean, are the dates decided first, then possible venues investigated, contacted and booked? Or is it the other way around? Presumably there has to be a sensible sequence for travel, so I would think it has to be the latter. In which case, dates must be reserved while contracts are discussed, for Michael to be able to say he's touring in the UK in April. I've checked the RAH website and there is very little listed yet for next April, so if he intends to perform there (and I'd put money on his desire to do so again!) I expect he has some dates on hold, pending all arrangements put in place.
Just curious, because I am currently working on an event for work, and we had that dilemma, on a much smaller scale of course; do we decide on a date and tell everyone that's when we expect them to turn up, or ensure availability of key staff first before we reserve the venue? As it was necessary to hold the event fairly quickly, we went for staff availability first - and came up with only one possible date! We then really struggled to find the right venue in the right area for that date. Must be a nightmare trying to arrange a tour unless it's started months and months in advance.

Margaret, there are several ways they do this. Michael has a tour agency that puts the tours together and figures out how to get people and equipment from one place to the next. There are times when venues request Michael and others when the agency sets them up with a venue because they are in travel distance of another.  The concerts don't get listed anywhere officially on Michael's sites until the contracts are all signed and worked out. Some venues and promoters will post before that but his official sites won't carry them until there is an ok from both sides.  Hope that helps some. Gail

Thanks, Gail. I'm glad I don't have to do it! The logistics of arranging one event in Warwickshire, from down in Kent, is making me wake up in the early hours in a cold panic, that I've forgotten something. It's the day before I go to see Michael on Loose Women, so at least I should be able to relax and enjoy his appearance, it'll be my reward if things have gone okay, or soothe my nerves if they haven't. I will certainly appreciate those behind the scenes who made sure he turned up on time!
