EXCLUSIVE: Following his now famous stint in Saturday Night Live‘s Captain Jack Sparrow digital short and a recent guest spot on Two And A Half Men, Michael Bolton is getting his own comedy series. ABC has put in development Michael Bolton’s Daughter Is Destroying My Life, a half-hour comedy starring the Grammy-winning singer.

The project, from Tagline and Universal Cable Prods. where the company is under a first-look deal, is based on an idea by actress Allison Miller, who co-stars on NBC’s Go On. It is loosely inspired by Miller’s real-life celebrity encounters when she first came to Hollywood. Before the project came together, she had not met Bolton, who will play a fictional version of himself. Tami Sagher (30 Rock) will write Michael Bolton’s Daughter Is Destroying My Life, which tells the story of a naïve young writer who moves to the big city and ends up taking a job heading “social media” for singer-songwriter Michael Bolton. The writer quickly learns she has her hands full with Bolton and the wild-child daughter he has recently taken in. Sagher will executive produce with Tagline’s Willie Mercer, Ron West, JB Roberts & Kelly Kulchak. Bolton will co-executive produce, Miller will produce. For now, there is no provision for Miller to star on the show though that is a possibility. Sagher, repped by CAA and Thruline, is a co-executive producer on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. Miller, who co-starred on Fox’s Terra Nova last season, is with  ICM Partners and Thruline. For Bolton, repped by CAA and manager Christina Kline, this marks a return to ABC where he was a contestant on Dancing With The Stars two years ago. This is the latest sale at a broadcast network for UCP, which expanded its business to broadcast last year. Here is again SNL’s Captain Jack Sparrow video featuring Bolton, which has amassed 91 million views on YouTube alone.
