New Country Mashup: Rascal Flatts?

published: March 1, 2011   |   author: Brad Schmitt

You know the Rascal Flatts boys have been collaborating with Justin Beiber.

Now it seems the mega-country group is going with, uh, the opposite demographic.

Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts put up a picture of his group with Michael Bolton.

Jay tweets that they’re all writing a new song for Michael’s new album.

Won’t Justin be jealous?

Hi Christine,

due to late night/early morning I could not yet check this gentleman/composer. Maybe somebody else knows...

I copied the article for those who can not read the original:

AR Rahman is part of an album that will have musicians from all around the world composing for singer Michael Bolton.

The Oscar-winning composer has given Bolton his hit track Sajna from Couples Retreat, albeit with a few changes. Bolton will now make his own rendition of the song and release it as a fresh track in his album titled Gems. He will also sing the Hindi words himself as Rahman is not singing the chorus of the song, as he was originally committed to.

Michael was keen to rope in Rahman for his album as he is a rage in the West, and also because the singer wants to collaborate with musicians from across the globe who have new and unusual sounds. He contacted Rahman and asked him to be part of the album, but Rahman excused himself as he couldn't meet the deadline. However Michael insisted that Rahman be part of the album and requested him to provide a song that can be reworked and used. Rahman offered his song Sajna, which is in English with a few Hindi words in the chorus. Now the song is being reworked for Michael."

Rahman's manager confirms saying, "The information that you have is correct. Rahman is very excited to have teamed up with Michael and be a part of his global album. Rahman immediately gave the song to Michael and his rendition is beautiful."

Hey Astrid and Helen, thank you so much for sharing the article and the link! I love the song and I'm sure Michael will do a fantastic job of it! Thanks again girls, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Thanks for the link, Helen! It sounds like the perfect song for Michael!

Anna (in MO)

I can picture Poebe Bryson&James Ingram to do that song too. Boltonnut from L. A. CA

So...so far we have:

Said I Loved You But I Lied - Agnes Monica

Sajna - A R Rahman

Love Is Everything - Rascal Flatts

? - Anne Akiko Meyers

How Am I Supposed To Live Without You - Coco Lee

Steel Bars - Oriantha

? - Delta Goodrem

? - Helene Fischer

A R Rahman wrote the music for Slumdog Millionaire as well.

Thanks Gail,

Didn't he also record a version of (Pride) In The Name Of Love for Gems? I'm sure I've read this somewhere.

Looking forward to this album. It sounds a great concept and very similar to Herbie Hancock's recent Imagine Project, where he collaborated with artists from across the globe. I also read that Seal was involved with this one too.

It's a unique concept for our man and one I cannot wait to listen to. He's sure hit a rich form of creativity!

Best, as always,

James

Hello,

That's right! Michael and Anne Akiko Meyers recorded U2's Pride, In the Name of Love.

Florin

PS. On Agnes Monica wikipedia page is written "During her stay in the U.S. for her international album recording, an unplanned compilation album was also recorded for upcoming Michael Bolton's album Gems; she sang a duet song "Said I Loved You...But I Lied" together with Michael Bolton. The album would also feature Elton John and Eva Kennedy."!!!!

Thanks Gail,

It certainly sounds more and more intriguing and as Florin says there was the interview where Elton and Eva Kennedy were mentioned and Elton certainly has had plenty of opportunity to get together with Michael when he was touring in the States a little while ago - maybe it will be Elton playing piano on a verson of ...... !! :)

The only thing is that now things have got to this stage and we know it is completed doesn't June seem an awful long, way away and more especially if it is the end of June !! :)  Maybe if Michael give us somemore little tidbits till then it will keep us going !! :)

Sylvia.  Your wee Scottish friend.

Hey Everyone. June will come quicker than we think. After all, I can't believe I'm here in L. A. almost 4 years already. :) I can't wait to get the CD. Elton&Michael to duet together would be cool. Elton can play that piano for me big time. Love his piano music. Not to be off topic but his song "Believe" live, woohoo.
