Michael has multiple projects in the works so we never know what will happen next!!!! I appreciate the opportunity to start a new thread once again for 2014 to give us all a place to share the best part of being a fan--- experiencing Michael in person doing what he does best-SING!!!!!!

I am looking forward to another fun year of posts and sharing great times by the best Michael Bolton fans in the world on this forum. I will post events to keep the thread moving along as the concerts come up as I have in the past.

Michael Bolton: l'odyssée d'un chanteur de charme

...the article is french, but you can take 'google translation' .....

Happy sunday

Hallo Brigitte, thank you so much for this article! I will spare everyone Google translation and here's my best attempt at translating:

Michael Bolton : the odyssey of a crooner

Former hard rock singer, Michael Bolton wrote romantic songs for other artists. But when the head of Columbia Records  saw that the company secretaries were seduced by his soft songs,  he convinced Bolton to change his register...

Ian Bussière Le Soleil (The Sun Quebec)

It’s as a crooner that Michael Bolton, who will be at the Capitole on Monday, has sold millions of albums  and seduced tons of fans with his voice and romantic songs. The American admits that he had to let himself be convinced to borrow that avenue.

“I started off doing pop and R&B but at a certain point, I had a manager who also managed the careers of  Led Zeppelin and Bad Company.    He encouraged me to form a band and play hard rock. Then I formed a band called Blackjack  with guitarist Bruce Kulick (who would later play with Kiss) and we had a good contract on the Polydor label”, tells Bolton in a phone interview with Le Soleil.

The band did 2 albums, then Bolton, still helped by Kulick, delivered 2 hard rock flavoured solo albums.  During that time, he would however also write songs of a softer register for other artists like Laura Branigan and Cher. “To put bread and butter on the table!” he admits.

One day, the big boss of Columbia Records, Al Teller, called him into his office. “I had the impression of being in school and being called into the principal’s office. I was convinced he wanted to kick me out.” Admits Bolton.

In fact, Teller  told Bolton that he knew he loved rock’n’roll, but  he didn’t see a future for him in that direction.  “he told me he heard the demos of the tracks I was  writing for other artists on which I sang accompanied on the piano and that his secretaries loved them so much that they brought them home. Then he told me he wanted to do another album with me, but not a rock album” he remembers.

Bolton wisely accepted the big boss’s proposition and never regretted it. “The hunger”, released in 1987, became his first double platinum album and has since sold 4 million copies, thrusting the singer to the rank of superstar.

Nugent, not Sabbath

If there’s a persistent urban rumor that suggests he auditionned to become the new singer for Black Sabbath when Ronnie James Dio left, Bolton assures it’s unfounded. “If it had happened, I think I would have  remembered” he says laughing. “However, I did have dinner with guitarist Ted Nugent because we had the same manager and he wanted me to become the new singer of Ted”, he admits.   Imagine the meeting between vegetarian Bolton and Nugent, carnivore and hunting enthusiast. “We joked around a lot when he realized that I wasn’t eating the meat in my plate! We talked of an eventual collaboration but that never came to fruition.

Memories of Céline

Among the numerous artists that have opened for him,    Michael Bolton remembers well the young 24 year old singer who would warm up his audience during his “Time love and tenderness” tour in the summer of 1992. A certain Céline Dion... She debuted in the United States and  people knew her version of “The power of love”,  but she wasn’t the star she is today. I was happy to bring her on the tour with me, because I know that in the beginning of a career, it can be very useful to tour with another artist” he remembers.

The tour was a big success. “We filled up everywhere we stopped, there were 15 000 people each night and they would all discover Céline”continues Bolton, who recently attended one of the diva’s concerts in Las Vegas. “I saw her after the show and she’s still the charming woman, the lovely person she was 20 years ago. Even if she had just finished a show, she was very enthusiastic to see me and insisted to give me a tour of the stage.”

Alone on Valentine’s Day

A word to all his fans: the handsome Michael will spend Valentine’s day in Niagara Falls, but he still doesn’t have a girlfriend! “Really? I’m giving a show on Valentine’s night in Niagara Falls? I hadn’t realized until you told me! Seriously,  those are 2 joined nice romantic concepts, aren’t they?” he tossed to the author of these lines.

When asked whether his girlfriend would mind him working  and far from home on the lovers holiday, he then opened up. “Actually, at the moment, I don’t have a girlfriend”, he confided. So, can the single ladies attending his concert consider him to be available? “Ha! Ha!, I feel the concept of a reality show taking shape!” laughed the “When a man loves a woman” singer.
