Welcome everyone to the 2014 Tour Review Thread. The upcoming year is going to be exciting with so many concerts scheduled already around the globe!!! Feel free to share the details of your concert adventures, photos, videos etc. This is the best time to be a Bolton fan with so many concerts and the MBC Charity Event which will most likely be held later in the year too. Michael has multiple projects in the works so we never know what will happen next!!!! I appreciate the opportunity to start a new thread once again for 2014 to give us all a place to share the best part of being a fan--- experiencing Michael in person doing what he does best-SING!!!!!!
I am looking forward to another fun year of posts and sharing great times by the best Michael Bolton fans in the world on this forum. I will post events to keep the thread moving along as the concerts come up as I have in the past.
Happy Concert Time in 2014 to all of you!!!

I was at the Detroit concert (not the $600 dinner, but the concert itself), and it was awesome. This was my fourth concert, and I am amazed that each one seems to be better than the last. Michael, the girls, and the band truly rocked the house. Overall, the concert was similar to the other non-symphony show that I saw in March but there was a lot more conversation focused on Detroit and Motown and thanking of sponsors than in the other show. At one point Michael was talking about Motown and its music legacy and said that this great music was Made In Detroit (same phrasing as American automobile ads). A voice in the the audience quickly chimed in "you can make me in Detroit". Everyone laughed, and I heard several "me, too"s and "count me in"s. As you would expect, the black tie crowd was much quieter than the rest of us. Barrett Strong and Martha Reeves (Motown legends who are in the Venetian concert available on youtube) were both in the audience. MB said that he had been filming in Detroit for the past three days, and the documentary was almost finished. We would be hearing more about that soon.
Concert started with the first stanza only of Go The Distance, then To Love Somebody and Dock of the Bay. At that point, Michael called to the stage Carol Friend. She had the highest bid on the silent auction item from the dinner to come on stage and be serenaded by Michael. They brought his stool to center stage for her to sit on while he stood to her right and sang. But first he posed with her for a selfie. And, yes, she had a huge smile on her face. She was obviously a fan. Michael sang You Don't Know Me, and whenever he came to the "you put your hand in mine" she would give him her hand. Michael would hold it for a few lines, then give it a kiss. When he came to the "you walk away beside the lucky guy", she would point to her date/husband. Then she would give her hand back to Michael. When she came off stage, her date/husband swung her around in a circle and she gave him a huge kiss. The Music Hall tweeted a picture and said that she is trustee of the facility. Someone in the crowd around me thought that she was a local attorney.
I was too busy enjoying the show to write down the playlist, but I do remember hearing Said I Loved You But I Lied, and Sweet Home Detroit (instead of Chicago). MB & Amanda dueted on Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing and How Am I Supposed to Live Without You. Then MB & Kelly sang Ain't No Mountain High Enough and The Prayer. Kelly did her medley of the Streisand, Cher and Kiss songs, then Amanda did a medley of my old favorites - That's What Love Is All About, Missing You, and When I'm Back on My Feet Again. Michael appeared in the center aisle in the midst of the high rollers to sing When A Man Loves A Woman (not the left side where he has appeared at the other concerts I attended). He did How Can We Be Lovers and Steel Bars. The encore was Money, dedicated to Barrett Strong, who was in the audience.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything about the rooftop party. The "old building smell" combined with way too much perfume on someone near me set off my asthma, so I wasn't able to make it to the after party. Oh, well, we'll write that ticket off as a contribution to the Music Hall. Regardless, the concert was awesome and well worth the trip. (I'm not from Detroit. I had business a bit further north in Michigan, so strategically scheduled the day of my trip so I could stop in at the MB concert on the way home.) It's always surprising what MB fans will go thru to attend a concert. One of the women near me had several cracked ribs due to a fall earlier in the day - she said she could be in pain at the concert as well as at home. Another commented that she was recovering from surgery earlier this week. I kept pulling out my inhaler, and the woman in front of me had a migraine when we were talking before the show. The only truly healthy person in my row seemed to be the 20 year old girl next to me. When we were chatting before the show, she had to google Michael to see what he looked like because she only knew him from Jack Sparrow (which he did not mention). She came with her mother and aunts to humor them. By the time MB serenaded Carol, she was clearly in the "oh, that should have been me" camp.
Unfortunately, I don't have any good photos to share with you. Even the ones from the digital camera are ghost shots like the ones on my cell phone. My poor photography skills just couldn't overcome the lighting.
Hi Ellen, what a fabulous review, thank you so much! Thanks also for the update on the documentary: Michael said in a recent interview that he was about 90% done with it. What a wonderful prize to be auctioned off for charity! Aww, how sweet... Thanks for sharing what you remembered of the setlist, that was pretty good. Heehee, I’m sure a lot of us have stories about the things we’d go through and have gone through to see Michael... XD Thanks again so much for your wonderful review Ellen, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie Qc Canada :D
Hi Elen, I think I've seen you up here. if not, welcome to the forum. Loved your review. Wow! to Carol. Sorry about the asthma flare-up--know how it is & ouch to the girl with the cracked ribs&surgery this week. Whew. What we do to be with Michael. I had to smile about the 20-year-old not knowing what MB looked like other than Jack Sparrow. You wrote your review so well. I felt like I was there. I'm sorry about your photos but your writing ability too over.
Thanks so much for coming in with your review of the show Ellen Therese and so glad you had a great time and obviously a pity about the roof top party that you weren't able to go to that but at least the concert went well and think wonderful memories created there and certainly a different kind of show to the norm with his serenade and the different celebrities in the audience....sounds like a real good one to have been at !!! :) On picture of Carol Friend that is posted here and I think is on previous page along with couple of other photos of Michael on stage if you want to look back to see.
On his documentary about Detroit in the radio interview posted in the Miscellany thread where he talks about that he says he believes and hopes it will be ready to be shown toward end of this year.....hoping so too as can't wait to see !!! :)
Thanks again for coming back in with review.....thanks !!! :)

Thanks Ellen for sharing your review with all of us. It must have been such special show to be able to witness. I am sorry you didn't get to attend the after-party. Maybe next time. I am sure you have great memories from this special show in Detroit!!

For Sylvie and Robin R the picture is a set of three and first one shows Michael with Bruce Schwartz and it is a lovely photo for Michael is smiling broadly and it was when he was playing pool for you can see cue in his hand. Second one I am not to sure of but it is Michael standing by a small statue which could be part of a larger ornate decoration somewhere and whether in Music Hall or not for feel it could be seats you can see at back of Michael but feel statue must represent something/someone of significance to Michael when he has opted to get photo taken with but sorry I cannot elaborate....may try and enlarge picture and see if can make out what it is exactly for it is a human form. Third picture is taken in the studio of the Live in the D show where Michael did the interview which we have on here and he is with the two presenters.
