Hi all.  I'm sure there is a thread like this somwhere, but since I'm newish to the group I thought we should have another round. :)

I was currious what song got you all hooked on Michael.  Was it one inparticular song, a series of hits or just his voice in general?

For me, it was hearing the song "How Can We Be Lovers."  on the radio in 1990.  I was 10 and a half years old.  The song was awesome, but that voice hooked me right off the bat.  Most of the songs my parents played around the house were classical music or ultra easy listening Barry Mannilo stuff so this voice was such a departure to anything I've heard before.....or since, really :).

I would listen to the radio station for hours waiting to hear that song....then my parents bought be my first tape player/recorder and I recorded that song and his future singles from that same local radio station.  I was hooked.  I would stay awake late at night and listen to Cacey Kasum top 40 and then Rick Dees weekly top 40 and get so excited when I saw how much his song had climbed and wait for interviews with him and record them on my tape player :)

I saved up my lunch money from school to buy "Soul Provider," because his music fed my soul more then lunch.  My soul food so to speak. :). Soon enough "Time Love and Tenderness" came out and my parents bought me this one so I wouldn't skip lunch :).  My best friend, who conviently lived next door to me, would come over and listen to the album over and over.  So much infact, that our mutual neighbor offered to pay us to stop playing it :).  No deal made.

We were now both hooked and wanted to join the fanclub listed on the album so we BOTH saved our lunch money up and signed up :) I still have the giant button that came in the mail somplace....maybe she took posession,  I don't remember.  :)  Those were the days :). Those days turned into years.....20 and still counting.

His voice today still has that "it" factor about it and he still writes those songs that move me.....His latest album is getting just as much play time as "Time Love and Tenderness" did, and the new neighors arn't knocking my door down, so maybe I've converted a new fan.

In "Don't Make Me Wait for Love" he sounded like he was about ready to.............:)
I know all about crying during&after concerts. When I saw Michael in Michigan in 1994, when he started "lean On me," forget it, I sobbed. People came up to me after the show while I was waiting for a friend to get me&asked me if I was all right&I told them that I was but that I was feeling emotional. One was a nurse thinking I was sick. I was sick all right. Sickly in love with MB.
Hi girls, love your stories, especially yours Payten! Lol My first introduction to Michael was through Casey Kasem too. I always had a tape in my tape recorder and taped songs I liked from the radio. Sometimes I’d tape some songs twice on the same tape, because I wasn’t sure I’d taped it and that happened with “When I‘m back on my feet again”. His voice just pulled me in and wouldn’t let go… I remember at the time that Shadoe Stevens was doing the AT40. I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on music back then but by the time “TLT” came along, I asked my husband to look for my MB song on CD but he came home with TLT. I quickly realized that WIBOMFA wasn’t on it, but listening to the tape, I just couldn’t get away from that voice, those beautiful songs and that passion that made everything else melt away… So I had to look for anything else the CBS club had at the time, whatever it was and it’s been like that ever since! Then I discovered, through articles and interviews, how much he loved and how he related to music as passionately as I did so, he became kind of like my “soul friend” and I follow anything my friend has to say or sing…  Well, there you go! Hey Jen, you’ve commented on other people’s posts but you haven’t told us what song or moment introduced you to Michael, how about it? I’ll look forward to reading more stories, thanks for starting this thread Payten, take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
I love coming to this thread I love reading all the old articles and and interviews about Michael!! Keep them coming! I feel in love with MB music the first time I heard and can't get enough of his music! I to love Kenny G. He was at one of Michaels concerts many years ago in Albany NY and they played together!!! Love it!! Thanks for all your hard work you do !

Loving these stories.I have said it many times and when i told Holly she thought it was very funny .I hated Mb at first,my friend had just split with her boyfriend and was crying and listening to HAISTLWY constantly ,it drove me crazy.I kept telling her to "turn that crap off",ha.Eventually it grew on me ,i was hearing it on the radio so much then HCWBL was all over the radio too .I eventually bought the album Soul provider .I loved it .When i looked for more albums i found The hunger.I had loved "Thats what love is all about " and never knew it was Mb .I was hooked and i think around 1991 Mb played a concert in The point in Dublin i went to see him and that was that .I have been hooked ever since.Thank god for my friend playing Michael like that or i may have never found my love for Mb music and all my lovely friends on here.xxx
never hated Michael's music but I do understand. His voice--what a voice. :) I understand.

I'm loving doing this as I'm meeting new people. Such as Oz, Eilene,&many others. 2 people I've met up here--robin from MD&Sylvie from Canada.

I should stop¬ to be off topic but my hand's feeling it but I can't help it. As I go on. :)
Sylvie. I hear you girlfriend taping songs of the radio. When I got a reel to reel tape recorder back in the vintage days of 1969, I'd tape music off the radio so, I do understand.

You guys are so well in describing what to say&how to say. I feel so stupid with my writing or the lack of it thereof. :)
Well I first heard I want to be your soul provider

(singing along here lol) on the radio I loved it. I too use to have a tape recorder and I would walk for about a mile to go to a steep hill near where we lived as a child and listen to the radio and tape the songs I loved from the radio. It was always so peaceful on the hill with just me and my music. I have and will continue to love music forever I try never to put a song to a sad part of my life but I must admit when HAISTLWY came out my brother and he's wife were separating and she played it over and over and over so now I always think of my ex sister in law when I hear this song not in a bad way though me and her always got along fine still do!
Still have my Soul provider Album
Love Dianna xxx
Great stories everyone!!!
Robin :)
Well for me, I think I knew Michael had the voice at an early age. I remember it very vividly as if it were yesterday. At Disney in CA, but his voice wasn't what caught my heart that day. It was his lips. LOL!! He continues to capture my heart though, in many ways, through his music and his charitable contributions. I have always wanted to tell him, maybe someday...

His Girlfriend For Life!
Though I've never literally seen MB'S lips, they seem to be tiny&I love tiny soft lips. Woo Hoo. :)
