Hitman Returns: David Foster & Friends

Maestro to the stars David Foster,  who has collaborated with some of the greatest superstars in music,  returns to THIRTEEN’s Great Performances series with several of his favorite artists  for  a magnificent night of music:  Hitman Returns:  David Foster & Friends is scheduled to air this March 2011 on PBS  (check local listings).  (In New York, THIRTEEN will air the program on Wednesday, March 9 at 8 p.m.)

Filmed last October 2010 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Hitman Returns, the follow-up concert to the hugely popular 2008 Hitman: David Foster & Friends, is an all-star celebration featuring even more chart-topping stars and music from the 15-time Grammy Award-winner’s extensive career catalog.

Great Performances is a production of THIRTEEN for WNET, one of America’s most prolific and respected public media partners.

The Mandalay Bay Events Center concert followed showman Foster’s 10-city “Foster + Friends” tour which sold out across the country. “We had such a phenomenal time last go round, I knew that I wanted to come back with a stronger, bigger and even more theatrical show that would be totally unforgettable.  I think we succeeded in assembling some of the greatest voices out there for one night,” stated Foster.  “I was thrilled to be hosting and accompanying my friends on this very special night,” he concluded.

Foster’s high profile friends on this occasion include All-4-One, Martina McBride, Charice, Natalie Cole, Earth, Wind & Fire, America’s Got Talent sensation Jackie Evancho, Lara Fabian, Ne-Yo, Michael Bolton, pedal steel guitar virtuoso Robert Randolph, Chaka Khan, Kenny Loggins, Seal, Ruben Studdard, and Donna Summer, performing songs either written, produced or connected to Foster over the course of his prolific musical career.

The evening offers  a succession of  showstopping solos, from both veteran performers and newcomers, the latter category represented in spectacular fashion by 10-year-old phenomenon Jackie Evancho’s renditions of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” and Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro,” and “Glee” star Charice’s soulful “All By Myself.”

But the concert is also thrilling for its striking duets: Bolton and Seal’s bluesy mash-up of “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “It’s a Man World”; Natalie Cole and Ruben Studdard’s nostalgic “When I Fall in Love”; Lara Fabian and Bolton’s fervent “The Prayer”; and Donna Summer and Seal’s powerhouse medley of “Unbreak My Heart,” “Crazy,” and “On the Radio.”

Foster — who has been nominated for an unprecedented 45 Grammy awards, won two Emmys and was an Oscar nominee — has discovered and nurtured the careers of megastars such as Josh Groban and Michael Bublé.  He has well as created chart-topping hits for legends  Andrea Bocelli, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Chicago, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind and Fire & Chaka Khan.

That was Awesome! Thanks:)!

Mary & meggy!

My Local PBS had the broadcast of the concert for the first time last night, not sure how they will possibly work in the footage David and Michael are recording on the 8th. Last night David Foster was live in the studio at our local PBS taking some of the calls!LOL  The program is wonderful, glad I bought the DVD as well as recorded the show..  See how it works on later broadcasts I guess here to see if they fill in between segments with the footage of Michael with David.  I have it set to record it every time it's aired so I can check.

I probably had it in the wrong spot but I was suppose to get the show on tonight but my local PBS channel decided not to show it. I dislike PBS for that reason. This isn't the first time they've pulled that stuff. I wanted to watch another show&it wasn't on. Caused me to miss it. They certainly will not get a donation from me that's for sure. I know. it's the local channel. I'm not happy. Now, I can't see it until Saturday the 12th if they even show it then. What's with that? They want donations but.......

Hi Robin,

I only got to know about PBS now over Michael's appearance on the program and went on the internet for that reason yesterday.I guess they do not stream live-shows completely live, but a few days later(and apparently you got the info already that it is going to be available from the 12th of March onwards) since I  personally live in the U.K. I don't know whether I will be able to see it,as I can watch some programs and some not(like i.e. the Carol King/James Taylor one is not available to watch in my region ,it says So yesterday I was left with the option:"need to know" ,"nightly business report","Nature" ,a.s.o.,but opted out of "American porn"

which I considered briefly- in favour of a fan-site about Michael I found on the net with many pictures ,a-concert medley, and other videos which I found to be as stimulating-if not more  even.

It is not the "Rocio-the voice" page, although  the rocio-the voice one is brilliant and also gets me to know all the classical stuff she put up to listen to. Maybe i have to go through all of her links-as the site I am talking about is also by"Rocio",but I don't know how I got to it and cannot find it at the moment again-and had the impression that "Rocio" was a man.Anyway-awaiting the PBS program.Since the concert in November RAH a whole new world seems to have opened for me. LoveAngelica

Hi Angelica, well, hope you get to find the site you're looking for. As far as the "Hitman returns" PBS program goes, Michael's participation is only the 2 duets you see on Youtube: the one with Seal and the one with Lara Fabian. You can buy the CD/DVD to keep it for posterity though! Just so you know, if trying to watch it on-line doesn't work out. Good luck and take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

thankx Sylvie, surely he must talk something on the show as well,no? I had to look up "posterity".I guess -I am not really a "posterity"type of person and have no collections of anything .-only recollections of my life possibly.Anyway-yes i hope I find this other Rocio-page,and if-I let everyone know.Love from London where there is currently me..Angelica

Hi again Angelica, I have a feeling we'll hear more from Michael in the taped segments inserted at pledge breaks. He really doesn't say much, no real big interaction with  even David Foster. However, you gotta love David's introduction of him! I'm so glad they'll be working together again on Michael's next CD! Do keep us posted if you find the program. Take care. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada
it seems I can't find it.but I found fanvideos from my life-changing concert on the 23rd of November 2010 in the RAH.

I'm still trying to find it. I finally did find my PBS channel. Then, the dude I called at Charter couldn't find anything. He said, "I've never received a call like this." I guess he's never received a call from someone to look up something on a particular channels).) I guess there's a first time for everything. As I said, my sister can get it Saturday night&I'll have to get it from her but I'm gonna check on my PBS since this dude couldn't help telling me the day, date,&time. Well, if they would make these cable boxes audeo accessible, I wouldn't have to go through all this. Even if I tape Michael's 2 shows&the one with him&Seal, I'm satisfied. Oh! well! Someway, I'll get it. I ain't gonna give up. grrrr.

Boltonnut from L. A. CA

I've not been able to find the David Foster show in my area yet as I have charter cable. My sister has direct so, I may have her tape it for me. I'm sure it's good. I may get the DVD/CD from Amazon; not through the donation. Can't afford that. Then, I just may transfer just Michael&Seal's part. That's all.

Boltonnut from L. A. CA

Hey Robin, you can get it from the store also girl. Marcel got it for me, shock of shocks, on the day it was released, in the store, in Canada! But then again, it just could be because David Foster is Canadian... Good luck finding it in your area girl! Take care sweetie. Hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada

Now, that's something Ididn't know David Foster's canadian. Awesome. So, you have the CD/DVD? Coolness.

How do you get to Rosio's link or web site?

Boltonnut from L. A. CA USA&thanks. :D
